The government ran a Russia hoax disinformation campaign while Trump was in office.

That is nothing but tired  deceptive spin from the Trump / Republican political playbook.

It is also part of the unproven Trump defense; that the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 was a hoax perpetrated by the Clinton campaign. This is the sort of claim criminals often make:  They was framed.

You can look it up. Compare Mueller's results with Durham's.

Twitter had weekly meetings with federal law enforcement agencies and Yoel Roth stated "these meetings that there were rumors that a hack-and-leak operation would involve Hunter
Biden. "
The FBI did go to Facebook.
Federal law enforcement agencies suppressed the laptop internally before Oct 2020. The FBI had the laptop since fall of 2019. Yet in Oct 2020 the federal law enforcement agencies are telling Twitter about rumours of a "hack and leak" regarding Hunter Biden.

"Trump was in office, so how was "the government" involved?"

I still don't see the government ordering anyone not to print anything. That is what the 1st Amendment prevents.

We only know that the government obstructed the government that was investigating the Soviet Trump Alliance (which began because of information provided by the Trump Campaign). You are nonetheless free to believe the Soviets and their agents in the Trump Campaign were only talking about the adoption of Russian kids in Trump Towers. Completely believable.

Ro Khanna to Vijaya Gadde "but this seems a violation of the 1st Amendment principles".
Gadde was Twitter general counsel.

I assume there is more to come, as well as much the public will never know.
Every day is a cognitive test.

One would think a guy who went to Yale would know better, but there are plenty of Ivy League law school  grads who seemingly can't litigate their way out of a wet paper bag.

Musk has access to all the records now. He can publish, or have others publish, whatever he wants.

iirc, Ro Khanna was the only Dem Taibbi could find who thought this involved first amendment issues.

Still, some others seems to be missing the point as well.

For instance, saying free speech is relative; questioning the right to spread disinformation.

The people have the freedom of speech, limited by slander, libel, copyrights, and certain kinds of incitement.

The press have the freedom to publish said speech or not.

Hunter Biden's real error was not running for Senate and just yelling "Them Republicans are getting desperate, they will lie about anything because they want this seat"

It looks like he has made 90 mistakes bigger than that.

I would say one thing.

Other than that, it's dubious he did anything that the Trump Crime Family hasn't done on steroids.

It is still difficult to believe he was stupid enough to drop off that lap top and never bother to retrieve it.

So you’ve expressed that you don’t like whataboutism, then resort to whataboutism. Liberal motto: do as I say, not as I do. Typical and would expect nothing less from you.
I didn’t know that. Thanks!

Context is not your strong suit is it? Murph ironically suggested if Hunter ran for office he could use the Trump defense that his opponents were resorting to desperation tactics investigating the lap top.

PAM suggests he made a lot of worse mistakes.

I am saying he made one huge mistake. He basically did the equivalent of a murderer dropping a smoking gun off at a repair shop then never picking it up.

The rest of his alleged mistakes, like supposedly engaging in joint ventures with Chinese business men, while Joe was not in office, sound a lot like the exact same sort of thing the Trumps did while Trump was in office. I am told there was nothing wrong with the latter. Does not look good though.

If you are going to tell me what the Trump family did was okay, but when the Biden family did the same kind of thing, it was a crime, my pointing out  that duplicity or double standard  is not whataboutism.

When it looks like Trump ripped off a charity, committed bank fraud, and cheated on his taxes, and the defense is what about her emails; that is whataboutism.

In general, when I refer to whataboutism, I mean the attempt to create a false diversion, raise a red herring,  make a mountain out of a mole hill, create a false equivalence, and so on,  in order to distract attention.

Pointing out actual hypocrisy or a double standard can be a valid counter argument. If that is whataboutism, I have no objection to that use.

Note that does not justify dishonestly smearing an accuser.

There are plenty of people who don’t agree with Trumpism and also don’t like what Biden brings to the table, but any time anything is said about Biden the automatic response is “something something Trump”

The dude hasn’t been president in almost 2 full calendar years and we can’t even be objectively critical of the zombie-in-chief without having a full-on referendum on Donald Trump.

The current state of politics in the US is an absolute joke.
