Even plenty of people on the left are dubious about the real value of the Dept of Education. It’s basically a laundering scheme that soaks up federal money and then disburses pennies on the dollar to a failing education system. One that used to be measurably better before the Dept of Education even existed.

Maybe we should spend the money trying to find out why 1 in 36 kids is autistic, and growing year over year instead of slapping bandaids on the problem by overspending on special ipad apps.

Can't do that. It's because of all the toxics that big corporations put into our food and water supply, but they are donors so let's put a guy in charge of HHS who will claim it's the measles vaccines.

Autism is not a curable condition. If you pull funding for support of people with autism trying to figure out how to make autism not happen, you throw the people with autism off the cliff.

I know a few people who have children who are non-verbal autistic. Like - the Rainman character was high functioning compared to their kids. Your concept won't change that but make their very difficult lives even worse.

As it stands right now there is no cutback in funding to these programs. Should it be abolished by congress, which seems unlikely, there are already plans in place to redistribute the funds back to the states as block grants. Keep in mind these specific federal funds allocated to these programs you’re talking about only amount to like 12% of the total funds allocated towards them. Not talking a total lack of funding here.

The hand wringers say that those will get misused because they’ll lack federal oversight (hehe) but I’m confident the state legislators and education folks can figure it out just like they did pre-1979.

The hand wringers also don’t know how funds will get disbursed with only 2200 people on staff at the Dept. Computers have been doing payroll for decades, even without AI.

The Department / Bureau / Office of Education has existed in some form since 1867. From 1953 to 1979 it was part of the Department of Health, Education, & Welfare. An Act of Congress on 1979 separated it into the DoE and HHS.

2 tidbits

Just took my first Waymo ride today - they've been rolling around MV for a few months. Freaky but pretty nice. Sorry Elon and Custard.

We just announced an autonomous vehicle partnership with GM today. Basically to get this to work, you need to be a monster software company - us or Google. Sorry Elon.

I have watched almost 10 years of insane fruitless witch hunts against Trump at this point. I didn’t even vote for the guy the first two times around. The stuff the Democrats and establishment have done actually turned me towards him, not further away.

TL;DR:

No, I don’t think that Trump and Musk are gutting parts of the federal government to shut down investigations against them, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they were.
