The Republican weaponization of crime issues was part of the problem.  But so was a fat, lazy, out of touch Democratic Party machinery in desperate need of a major overhaul (particularly in NY).  Democrats need to talk about dealing with crime and articulate a plan that sounds reasonable to most voters.  A nationwide uptick in homicides brought crime to the forefront during the mid-terms.

That is an interesting turn of phrase. Similar to "The Progressive Democrats downplaying of crime issues was part of the problem." 

Seems like Eric Adams had no problem running on an anti-crime platform.
