The problem being that they expect people to understand that "Defund the police" is a slogan that implies "reforming law enforcement to make it more effective. They do so because they know - well, a lot of Americans are just not that smart. Witness a couple hundred thousand people trying to ride out a Cat 5 hurricane.

When Republicans want to shift money from public to private schools, they don't say "defund the schools" or "defund education". They talk about school choice.

When they talked about eliminating The Dept of Education, it hurt them.

Back in the day, when they wanted to defund programs, they accused liberals of throwing money at problems.

The Republican liars are doing a good job of getting their deceptive message out.  Conditions are bad. Inflation is high. Energy prices are high. Crime is high. All due to the pandemic, but it is too easy to blame Democratic policies: the stimulus, stopping keystone XL pipeline, defunding police.

I am not sure how to counter that without the indepth analyses that don't work in politics.

They could do better. Run spots showing inflation rates in Canada snd Europe. Point out that Republicans are blaming Democrats for what is global inflation.

Dems really need to dig up dirt on Republicans opponents. Chances are some of them are closet homos or pedos.

We are stuck in a false binary mindset of individualism versus collectivism. Both have failed every time they have been tried. There is a middle path that promotes social justice without stifling individual initiative.
