Out here in the sticks zoning and planning isn’t a huge concern but I’m sure that in urban areas it’s a complete clusterfuck.

Yep.  Loss of farmland, development in floodplains, annexation by municipalities, large animal feeding operations, wind/solar farms, watershed protection and rural subdivision development are just minor annoyances in rural areas.   

Just ask local county and municipal officials.

I’m serious. The economy in my county is so static that literally none of those things are a current problem. Houses are being torn down and farmed over. Flood prone areas have been and/or are being given back to nature out of necessity. There is no subdivision, solar, or wind turbine farm production taking place. No one is building and large confinement animal feeding operations and hardly anyone is investing in those things in Illinois anymore, period. There’s nothing to annex because very little is being built.

Big Surprise, the Christian Right is offended by this, and is trying to stop it.

I personally don't have much of a problem with the concept. It appears to have been borrowed or lifted or appropriated from Mahayana Buddhism, specifically the Kuan Yin myth of the Lotus Sutra. Briefly, Kuan yin,  Guanyin, or Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, is depicted an androgynous divinity who assumes various forms to meet the needs of and save suffering people. As an aside, this has sometimes been abused to justify corrupt rituals. Also, a maternal female forms is shown holding a child, so in China and Japan she is sometimes identified with Mary. 

Anyway, these days "we" are very sensitive about offending anyone and also cultural appropriation. Portraying Jesus as a lesbian female is clearly offensive to mainstream Christians. Also, if someone wanted to reach, a case could maybe made for cultural appropriation?

Also it’s an indie film with no planned release date. There are all kinds of strange masturbatory art projects out there. Wake me up when we have Christian parents picketing outside the IMAX.

I don't go there much. Since it transitioned to restaurant puff pieces, it's been intolerably boring IMAO.

But I had a cordial contretemps with Mike Carpenter about Mary's looting coverage. He thought the N-G provided too much personal information about people who've been merely charged, not convicted of crimes. I know some people have the same opinion about mug shot publication.

I've never met Mike but I enjoyed his contributions to both of the Tay & Carp podcasts I heard.

I have met Mary, and I emailed to congratulate her on the excellent reporting (before it became a political issue).
