Do you guys know what tipped employees usually make per hour?

It has a lot to do with where they work.

What state/county/city you referring to?

True, but often it’s very little.

Pick a couple.

Pick a couple.

You are the one who brought up the issue. As Nichi noted, it depends.

In Chicago it is $12.25/hr.

I said pick a couple. Try Texas. Or downstate Illinois.

Downstate it is $9/hr unless the local home rule municipality or county has a higher rate.

Right. And not all that long ago it was around $4.95 in Illinois. Texas was $2.13 last I knew. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still in that range.

Except we were talking about now given the reduced taxes federally.

Texas is $2.13 allegedly. (BigTenPAThey did not check the underlying sources.) But, as elsewhere, the tip credit only kicks in if the person makes the tip credit amount in tips. The employer still has to make up the amount if they employee doesn't get the tips to make at least minimum wage.

Right, but a lot of people think servers are making a full minimum wage (or more) plus tips. Not the case.

I don’t know anyone who thinks that servers are making a full minimum wage before tips. Do you have any insight to share on what sort of people typically don’t tip?

I went to The Blue Willow in Riverside for dinner 1 day. They had very good Bohemian food and it was cheap. A guy and the woman he was with were paying their bill, somewhere around $10, and he was going to leave a dollar tip.
The woman said: 'do you think that's too much ?'

Between them and me, the server did end up with a good tip for the 2 tables.
