A couple of months ago Ms Custard’s Orange County dwelling uncle was in Oakland for work. He parked and went into a convenience store to get some sundries for his hotel room, and as he was checking out the proprietors warned him not to park on the street there because the mostly peaceful local thieves watched constantly for cars to break into. When he went back out to his car, he’d been smashed and grabbed and all of his stuff was gone. The police response was about the same as when the cops found The Dude’s car after it had been stolen.
