I like Liz for the most part. The GOP would be better off if they had more people like her.

But being smart enough to know which way the wind is blowing and distancing herself from Trump isn’t exactly rocket surgery.

I get most of my news from the local newspapers (daily and weekly) and TV stations.  I tend to read the Sports section first.  Refuse to watch cable news programs, including CNN, FOX and MSNBC.  No subscription to Mother Jones (along with Newsweek, NYT or WaPo) for me either.  I do listen to NPR, primarily for 30-45 minutes in the morning while driving, but not every day. My Twitter feed is primarily focused on environmental topics.  Will scroll past anything political in nature.         

As I said before, I think the Trump's "stolen election" lie contributed gto the insurrection in a major way.  However, I don't know if he planned or directed the event.

That does not mean she isn't a Republican. It just means she isn't a TFF (Trump Fan First).

I don't agree with much of her politics, but I can admire how she handled this. Much more admirable than a lot of Democrats when Clinton was lying under oath in a sexual harassment case, that's for sure

As we are seeing, this whole thing was not organic. The fake electors scheme, the pressuring of Pence (who acted admirably in this), the taking advantage of the rally on 1/6 and the egging on the crowd of mentally deficient people like that Basked Alaska doofus, and refusing to try and calm things down when it was getting out of hand (based on details from his aides being just released), the lawsuits based on lies and fantasies (and all tossed by the courts), the continued lying about the election despite all the people he had looking into it telling him it was not stolen, etc. etc. It was all one big con job meant to actually  steal the election to satisfy the ego of a guy who has to lie about his golf game.

Certainly part or most of it was severely low IQ Trump supporters responding to his stolen election rhetoric.

I think there were quite a few people that were there for different reasons and agendas and it was certainly handled questionably from a security aspect.

And of course it’s been parsed and spun in a million different ways depending on what political agenda each spin may serve.

Only circa 2020. Back in 2014 she was far more Republican than Trump. I mean, Abraham Lincoln is a Republican like Bernie Sanders is a Republican.

This sort of post is why we are in trouble. I don't really watch FOX because whenever it's on, something that is clearly counterfactual is presented as fact, so there's no point.

If you watch CNN or MSNBC, you do have to ferret out things that are fact from a firehose of conclusions based on those facts, some of which aren't a good connection of those facts. But if you are watching CNN and you see someone smash through a window in the Capitol, the fact it was on CNN doesn't make it fake. It's real video.

It's pretty simple to filter out the histrionic as they appear. Olbermann stopped being a reporter and started being an ANGRY MAN pretty fast, so you don't get a lot of information per minute. Maddow started that way. Lemon slowly veered that way. Chris Hayes can make it pretty clear what is conclusion is, but I like that he does present a lot of raw information first. Hannity, Ingraham, Tucker - they skip any actual evidence and just go to wild unsupported conclusions.

The GOP power structure for the most part has the same goals. Abortion restriction isn't really one of the overarching goals, but there are instances of people like Mike Johnson who are true believers in those goals.

There are three types.

Chris Christie - thinks that if he sells the unpopular policy positions of the GOP better, people will vote in GOP leaders to implement them.
Liz Cheney - old school. We know our positions are inherently unpopular and can't be sold, so we go with voter suppression. If we fail, we fail.
Trump - doesn't care if positions are popular or not, voter suppression is great but if that doesn't work we work the levers of chicanery to rig things. And if that doesn't work, see if we can get our supporters to install us via violence.

I really don’t seek out any news. If it’s actually important I’ll hear about it and dig into it if interested. Being programmed by talking heads or partisan articles really isn’t my thing.

About 95% of my exposure to big news topics and the discussion of them happens here. Some comes from the radio and conversations. The rest comes from the three TVs to the left at the gym that simultaneously show Fox, CNN, and MSNBC with the captions on. It’s hilarious because CNN and MSNBC are ALWAYS talking about Trump and Fox is always talking about Biden and the border.

It appears to be one of those quiet part out loud things.

Basically the State is trying to deter voter fraud by requiring proof of eligibility first, the feds are deterring voter fraud by throwing you in jail if you vote and you aren't eligible. If you successfully fake your proof, Arizona won't try to catch you, but the feds will put you in jail if they find out.

Up to the reader as to if threat of being slapped on the wrist by Az is a bigger deterrent than the smaller chance but higher price of a decade in federal prison. Either way - the majority of voter fraud is people voting for dead people or someone else's ballot.
