So Danville is a rural town in southern IL?
Going back in time is not really a bad concept in some ways to some conservatives. Some miss some aspects of the goodle days. Like small towns with a sense of community and thriving businesses other than meth labs.
Is the author blaming excessive taxation, a lack of full time fire departments, or both?
Off hand, I am thinking Missouri might be better at tourism. They have popular places like Branson, Silver Dollar City, Meramec Caverns, Hannibal, Lake of the Ozarks ...
Tennessee is historically good at tourism too. People flock to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Dollywood ...
The Chicago area pulls in more visitors annually than Missouri, and it's not even close.
Branson? Penny ante compared to the Cubs/Bulls/Sox/Bears/Blackhawks. Before we get into big events like Taste of Chicago or Lollapalooza, there are thousands of visitors who come just to go to the Museum of Science and Industry, Planetarium, Shedd, Willard Building. All of this before we even get into the number of conventions that are held in Chicago.
Lake of the Ozarks seems pretty crazy but it's small potatoes compared to Lake Tahoe - Backwater Jacks is neat but it's not Harrah's Casino, and it's 100% seasonal, I can't even fathom how miserable that place would be in the winter, the roads are super crazy insane.
