It would be hilarious if this is the question they are basing their results on. Half the populace doesn’t even understand what this means. Again, it’s not hard for even an experienced pollster to put out a flawed poll.

Anyone who knows anything about polling knows that Americans are hilariously bad at “defining themselves.”

The questions have to be very specific to get accurate results.

You could ask someone in a poll:

1) Do you identify as fiscally conservative? Yes

2) Do you think the US should have universal healthcare? Yes

You could get yes to both questions, when we know that most fiscal conservatives are not going to back universal healthcare. That’s why polls that deal in self-proclamations and generalities are basically worthless.

I am thinking they are comparing these numbers against identical prior polls. So that is something, at least, to consider.
