Way to call it out!
You’re trying to mock me, but yes - this is what happens when people who call out bigotry are treated worse than the people advocating for it. Assuming the “conservative views” people mean are like, I don’t think women should have a choice to have an abortion and I don’t want trans people around my kids. Maybe they don’t, but there’s no way to know. Frankly I'm not too sure what the other conservative hot button social issues are. Immigration, I guess?
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that in a culture where half the country believes being an open transphobe is virtuous that opinions against trans people are going up. That’s what happens when people who know better spend all their time arguing with the people calling bigotry out and no time calling the open bigots out. Conservatives jumped all over that one trans mass shooter to paint trans people as dangerous, but obviously don't want to do that with the huge, huge, huge majority of those events. Not a coincidence.
You reap what you sow, and if enough people truly believe it’s worse to call out bigotry than be a bigot, then you will sow an openly bigoted society. That isn't what I want for America, personally, but it's obviously something American conservatives have been fighting for for a few hundred years now. It's pretty frustrating to still be fighting the "we should treat people like people" fight in 2023, but here we are.
