Elon's buying it again. Or at least until his buddies close their long positions after his rumor jacked up the price again

See "buckaroo bonzai" out there with a sprinkler trying to defend his house. There were plenty of people who did that. But they still represented under 1% of people under evac orders. Leadership isn't about each individual anecdote, it's about moving the needle on the percentages. The number of dead and needing to be rescued, people stuck on Sanibel without food, power, water... this is on leadership. If there were a random couple of people we could feed and scold, it would be one thing. But real rescue is being hampered by the sheer numbers.

Not too sure about that. There was plenty of warnings from the weather people. Some had it right (Euro model). Some had it wrong (the other model).  Point is, why fuck around? No reason for the government to have to tell you to split town when the weather models tell you the hurricane is coming. Some people are just idiots or oblivious, or both. Darwin wins again.

Eh.  Fuck Mike Rowe.  That jerkoff acts like he's all for the blue collar worker, and all that bullshit, and all he's done is make a shit ton off of the backs of those guys.  I mean, it's nice that he advocates for them, I suppose, and his shows outline the shit they do and how hard they work, but he acts like he's right beside them, and works his ass off like they do, and he doesn't.

At the end of the day, he does a cute show with them, then when the lights go off, he leaves, says fuck you, and goes on to the next one.  When I see the shit he writes, I usually get past the first sentence or two, then say, blah, then scroll on.

Pretty strongly agree with you here.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

A drive it home moment in these cases - when emergency services ends up saying "we will not be responding to 911 calls". The idiots or oblivious still assume that if something goes really wrong, they will get bailed out. Which is true - after the surge passed, there we were, with helicopters going to Sanibel Island carrying people off or bringing them food.

My favorite was Don Lemon going around somewhere near Orlando that had 2-3 feet of flood water from rains, in a boat with emergency personnel offering to take people somewhere, the entire neighborhood was underwater but the flood waters were still 6-12 inches below the level of the floors of the trailers. People were refusing trips out, but one lady said "if they tell me this is the last trip, I'll probably go". But when that happens, there won't be room in the ark for all the people deciding to take the last boat out, so they will have to run additional trips, which then reinforces that they don't need to go, there will be another boat.

The kicker was the woman saying "my house is fine. The real bummer is that the car is just trashed". She presumes that some insurance company will just pay for the car, or Biden will send her a check. Either way, the rest of us pay one way or the other for her not simply considering that moving what is probably her most valuable possession away from destruction, a possession which is designed to be movable.

The photos of Naples with cars floating down the roadway past parking garages with empty top floors are just priceless. Well they aren't priceless because the rest of us will be paying the price with insurance rates or tax dollars.

My 2c, we put out mandatory evac, and if you don't evac, we'll still try to save your life if needed but you don't get any insurance money or government dollars. If you car is totaled and you didn't take basic precautions, you lose.

"But while officials along much of that coastline responded with orders to evacuate on Monday, emergency managers in Lee County held off, pondering during the day whether to tell people to flee, but then deciding to see how the forecast evolved overnight......

The delay, an apparent violation of the meticulous evacuation strategy the county had crafted for just such an emergency, may have contributed to catastrophic consequences that are still coming into focus as the death toll continues to climb.

Lee County, which includes the hard-hit seaside community of Fort Myers Beach, as well as the towns of Fort Myers, Sanibel and Cape Coral, did not issue a mandatory evacuation order for the areas likely to be hardest hit until Tuesday morning, a day after several neighboring counties had ordered their most vulnerable residents to flee."

Everything looks to be county, county, county.

If Lee *county* is to blame, and state leadership is meaningless, then Florida should just go ahead and get rid of the office of the Governor.

... “High inflation in the U.S. has not been driven by any unique American policy — not the American Rescue Plan and other generous fiscal relief during the pandemic recession and recovery nor anything else U.S.-centric,” the researchers wrote.

... “We could have kept inflation much lower in the US if we had raised interest rates through the roof beginning in early 2021 and hadn’t done the stimulus package,” Bivens said. “But there would be a huge cost to that. We’d be looking at a very different labor market with much higher unemployment.”

Was just thinking about how inflation is not unique to the US at this point but I am sure the Dems will pay a price for it in November (among other reasons). What I have not looked up, as The PAMan = Big10Man, is how does US inflation rates compare to that for other countries?

We are probably in the middle of the pack. Canada is slightly lower; Portugal is higher.

Republicans are still lying and blaming Biden's policies. Same with oil and gas prices.
