Postal money order or cash in hand were the only payment options. If it wasn’t something hard to find and even more difficult to acquire, I would have done business elsewhere. It was in SWMO FWIW.
Springfield/Joplin/etc. is like Iowa. 3 years behind everywhere else, so give it another year with mass acceptance of Venmo/CashApp/etc.

If Person A negligently cuts a victim's hand off, Person B does a half-assed job bandaging it, and Person C shoots the victim point-blank in the head, who killed the victim?

D. Mrs. Palsgraph.
That was not a reasonably foreseeable answer.

Remind me which of you was all “climate change is good for Midwest farmers”?

Barring some major swarm of locusts or hail storms, we just about have another record crop in the bin with the incredibly favorable weather conditions we’ve had this year.

Coincidentally I read this just seconds after opening a text from a friend and business partner in Davenport whose power was just restored today.

In addition to power outages, it looks like that wind storm picked up speed and hit hard in parts of northern Illinois.

We lose power over the summer most years.
A derecho is straight line winds over 70mph. Been several years since we've had 1 of those. We get straight line winds all the time. NOAA radio is a must.
Looking south the other day. That's what a derecho front can look like, and the wind hadnt started howling yet.
The north side of the front spared us, but dropped a tree a foot from the boat motor and a foot from the back of my wife's vehicle. A perfect fall. No damage.

Yeah it was pretty nasty. Lots of limbs and trees down, structural damage in areas. I cover the area for work and have seen a lot of it first hand. At home it wasn’t too bad, live in a rather protected low forested area. Just some branches and debris. Got a branch on my roof I need to get down still, was hoping it might blow off. 😂

We had a doozy a few years ago.
NOAA went off and said the front would hit us in about 20 min.
The sky looked ok and the lake was flat. 10-15 min later, the frontal cloud showed up with the winds, heavy rain and the lake was boiling.
NOAA pretty much hit the timing to the minute.

Minnesota averages 1-2 derechos a year, and have occurred following drought years.

"By definition, if the swath of wind damage extends for more than 250 miles (about 400 kilometers), includes wind gusts of at least 58 mph (93 km/h) along most of its length, and also includes several, well-separated 75 mph (121 km/h) or greater gusts, then the event may be classified as a derecho."

This was described as a rare derecho, not something seen once or twice a year. I have been in the same location  for 25 years. We've never seen power outages like this in NE IL. We were restored yesterday. There were towers knocked over, substations damaged. 15 tornadoes touched down. There were three large, two medium, and three smaller areas with 75mph + winds and sustained winds of 58 mph for as long as 15 to 20 minutes.  This was in NE IL. IA was a lot worse.

This morning's Star Trib weather guy said 770 mile path of hurricane force winds and 112mph winds around Midway in that state south of us.
I hope it stays rare that one of this force is seen, and that everyone gets thru it.

Trump issues an executive order of some sort to defer payroll taxes for those earning less than $2000 a week. He follows up by saying if re-elected. he plans to not only forgive those taxes, he wants to completely eliminate the payroll tax.

For those living on another planet, the payroll tax is what funds the Social Security Trust Fund.  Terminating it is, by definition, defunding Social Security. Yes, he says we'll just fund it with general revenues. He hinted there will be enough money because of tremendous economic growth, or something like that.

Remember Trump had promised to reduce the deficit and end it over 8 years. Instead, deficits swelled to 666 billion in 2017, 779 billion in 2018, and $984 billion last year. That was in what Trump's supporters are calling the best economy ever. This year the deficit was projected to be 1.2 trillion before covid-19. Now estimates are approaching 4 trillion. So, realistically, without a payroll tax, we would need to borrow even more money.
