25% of the country was deplorable in 2016.  Currently, "There are probably anywhere from 10% to 15% of the people out there that are just not very good people, but that’s not who we are."
That's progress. Unless, of course, 25% are still deplorable and an additional 10-15% are just not very good people. That's not progress.
In the quest for unity, it is important to identify these people if they are to see the light.
“The vast majority of the people are decent, and we have to appeal to that and we have to unite people – bring them together. Bring them together.”

Heather has some deplorable extended family. They are deplorable in a specific way, and it's common in Ohio and Pennsylvania: They are Know Nothing papists. They get their news and opinions from insular groups, and they think it's better news than the Lamestream.

One aunt sent her an article for the Babylon Bee, thinking it was real. https://babylonbee.com/news/pelosi-rips-up-bible

Trump wants to give black people jobs

Democrats want to give them no police department

Compromise solution. Only black people get to be cops

Having been forced to represent a dude who claimed he was assaulted by a cop, who was black and who had a complaint file the size of a banker's box, leads me to the thought that police brutality issues are not solely race issues, but police personnel issues....

"Employees of Hennepin County have been awarded 16 hours of paid time off to mourn the death of George Floyd.

Every one of Hennepin County’s 8,500 employees that qualify for benefits can take 16 hours of paid leave in two hour increments at any time until the end of the year to mourn the death of George Floyd. Floyd died last week after he was taken into custody by Minneapolis Police. The order granting all employees time off came by way of the County Administrator, David Hough, Tuesday, who says the decision was unanimously approved by the County Board."
So much for a previous concern .....
"The county employee who provided the information about the paid time off said that they were not aware of any broad push for such a measure on behalf of county workers. The employee also reported that just one week ago, the county had asked if any of its workers would be willing to voluntary furlough themselves to save money– an apparent signal that the county has been running a significant deficit or facing other financial problems."
And the police officers may want to use their paid time off before they get defunded....
"The offer of paid time off appears to extend to Minneapolis police officers whose jobs are also under attack as the City Council President expresses her intent to abolish the police department with the support of other council members including that of Jeremiah Ellison, the State Attorney General’s son."

The officers who responded to the Floyd situation were a team of a guy on his 3rd shift as a full time officer paired with a guy on his 4th day. Keung, an African American, and Lane initiated the cuffing.
Chauvin and Thao arrived as backup. The rookies deferred to the experienced veterans. Keung and Lane tried to suggest a change in action to Chauvin.
Thao is a lifelong metro area resident, married with 4 kids.
Keung grew up in north Mpls with a single mom who adopted 4 at risk kids. Captain of his high school soccer team, coached youth soccer and baseball, and volunteered to build a school in Haiti per his lawyer.
Lane worked as a juvenile counselor, and received a community service award from Frey and Arradondo, the police chief, for his volunteer work with kids per his lawyer. Per his lawyer also, Lane jumped into the ambulance to perform CPR.
Lane is alleged to have pointed a gun at Floyd before handcuffing him, and questioned Chauvin twice about the restraint tactics.

From what I can gather, police unions are a problem too.

Unions, especially government employee unions, generally lean Dem. Police unions might be an exception.

No, the Unemployment Rate Didn’t Really Drop in May

"BLS asserts that 20,935,000 Americans were unemployed in May, attributing the decline to employers adding 2,509,000 jobs in May as states allowed “a limited resumption of economic activity.” But it’s not that simple. The unexpected decline in the jobless rate is based on a survey of businesses and households conducted over the week of May 16th, and BLS has also reported that 29,965,415 Americans received unemployment insurance benefits in the same week.  That’s a gap of 8,980,415 people, enough to raise the May jobless rate 5.7 percentage points to 19.0 percent and much closer to economists’ expectations."

...

"It would be unprecedented for the White House to pressure the Labor Department to produce a jobless report that serves Donald Trump’s needs and desires.  But unlike the May unemployment report, it would not surprise anyone."

Editor of Alabama newspaper calls for the Ku Klux Klan to 'night ride again'

In the editorial, Sutton writes that the Democrats and Democrats in the Republican Party "do not understand how to eliminate expenses when money is needed in other areas."

"This socialist-communist ideology sounds good to the ignorant, the uneducated, and the simple-minded people," he wrote.

Actually, this simple-minded ignorant dickhead's thinking reflects america's binary politics that seemingly does not / cannot distinguish between socialism and social democracy.

My experience with groups/institutions/clubs/unions is that,  when the vitality of the entity become more important than what the mission is, you've got a problem.  This applies to government (police included), religion (jihadists, pedophiles), lobbyists (NRA, Freedom Socialist), political parties, NCAA? etc...  When the tipping point is reached with the masses on this, institutions  can either change or be changed.  I'm not not confident my generation, old farts, can do much but get out of the way of the generation behind us.  Yep, still blowing in the wind....
