That's an interesting theory given the former Confederate states as a whole are net takers of Federal money.

It has nothing to do with that. If you are at all interested, google it. It is something about federal taxation to pay the civil war debt. I didn't wrap my head around it.

Fairly sure the north plundered the south during the end stages of the war and under the military rule of Reconstruction. A lot of those areas never really recovered, leading to a great migration to the north. Which is how we got the Dixie Highway, Hoosiers, and Chik-Fil-A
