But since you brought it up, every empire collapses at some point. There have been significant periods of civil unrest in recent years. Pretty sure things aren’t going to be really smooth around and after the upcoming election.

All it would take is a couple of consecutive drought years in the US and food supplies would get tight. Societal norms get a little wonky when lots of people are hungry.

But the guy renting a town house in a major metro area which would be the first areas to unravel is going to talk down to me

California is the fifth largest food supplier in the world. And the vast majority of crops we grow are edible by humans. We have huge investments in farm equipment to grow such food. Meanwhile out there in the sticks you will have a couple of $500k combines that are worthless if you can't ship the corn to somewhere else, where a cow eats it, then is shipped somewhere else to be butchered, then shipped to you.

Santa Clara County produces 310 million dollars worth of agricultural products annually. Neighboring Monterey County is the third highest agricultural producing county in the Country. Fresno County produces more food than 23 states. Strangely I ride past a pumpkin patch on the way to the office.

The city is required to act upon complaints of violations of the law. In this case, a private equity firm owned by the second largest donor to the Trump campaign, which owns a chain of Kimball's Ice Cream parlors, filed a complaint in order to protect their own sales.
