I think the fact that people even debate Russia v. China like it's either a choice or a serious question were it a choice is evidence of Russian propaganda efforts working.

I don’t even participate in the fora at which Russian propaganda is targeted. I just think it’s common sense.

And it’s not an either/or decision. It’s about contrasting the pros and cons of those who we are in bed with. Maybe we should just be friends with everyone?

Nichi is always talking about globalism and free trade and such. Shouldn’t that beget diplomacy and a global spirit of camaraderie? (pun most definitely intended)

Russia has immense resources. Oil. Vast tracts of fertile farmland that isn’t being used efficiently. Educated human capital.

I do consulting work for an agricultural company that operates in Russia.

To quote the owner of said company, “If they ever figure this out (high output agriculture) we (US and Canada) are in deep shit.”

That is hyperbole and it may be somewhat true in an immediate economic sense, but thanks to nearly a century of collectivism there is vast untapped potential there to help feed an exploding world population in the future.

I know everyone mad at Russia cuz they tanked Killary but the right diplomacy could yield a synergistic relationship that would be not only a bonanza for the West, but also for the proletariat of Russia who live incredibly shitty lives relative to the wealth and resources their nation has to offer. Doggone Marx.

Thanks I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I think if I spread it across enough minimally active message boards it might eventually get some traction on 4chan

I don't think it's an either/or and agree we should build favorable trade relations with everyone we can. I also don't give a shit about Russian interference, at least in this discussion.

The problem with Russian agriculture isn't a human knowledge or will one. Barring climate change at a faster rate than even predicted, we're all going to be long dead before Russian agriculture is significantly beyond where it's at now. They just don't have the soil quality or climate to reach US efficiency or the output/variety of crops seen in China (which was communist and broke as well) and India.

There's no bonanza there. Even among larger trade partner countries based on potential, we'd be better off building relations with Brazil, Indonesia, or Nigeria.

There’s a huge misconception about Russian agriculture. The black soils in the southern steppes are remarkably similar to those in central Illinois. Sometimes many feet deep of black organic matter rich soils that haven’t been mined/lost to high input farming and tillage practices like here in the states.

You’re right in that weather will hinder some places from growing “summer crops” but small grains thrive even in northern Alberta Canada.

This is a good read on what’s changed in Russian AG and how they’re continually a larger threat to the US.
