Saying what? wtf does AOTC mean? Are you agreeing with MacLean's take on James McGill Buchanan  or that it's a bit biased? Buchanan followers would be the ones who think social distancing, mandatory masks, and sheltering in place are somehow serious violations of the 9th amendment. Yet they would also be the most likely to blame victims of police violence for "resisting."   

Personally, I call myself a recovering libertarian. I used to buy into the idea that liberty = private property rights. I also trusted the private sector to inherently do the right thing by their customers.

Then we had the tobacco hearings and the great recession.

The point I’ve been trying to make for ages is right there in your article, “ While Americans grapple with Donald Trump’s chaotic presidency, we may be missing the key to changes that are taking place far beyond the level of mere politics. Once these changes are locked into place, there may be no going back.”  I’ve been saying that while you and others have incessantly ranted and raved about Trump, it’s mere stage theater to distract everyone from seeing the men behind the curtain pull all the levers and strings.

That did not take long.  Just cooperate with the police and they will not kill you.  Of course, there have been cases of mentally or physically impaired people who could not cooperate, but that that's another issue.

My thinking is the people who say just cooperate  are the same ones who don't want to wear masks because it violates their rights. Not you specifically, I mean in general.  As long as the cops are harassing someone else, they probably did something to provoke it. Just don't  inconvenience me.

Thanks. That is a good point.  For me, Trump's idiocy is a mix of comic entertainment, exasperation, and trepidation. Also, the source of fights with my wife and intellectual wrestling matches with old friends.  Lately, it's over the top. Different kinds of per capitas?  Threatening to close down social media?

It has never distracted me from discussing other topics, such as competing economic models.  There has to be a third way between predatory, laissez faire capitalism / dog eat dog social darwinism and paternalistic state socialism. Right now, we are trending toward the former, and any alternative is attacked as the latter. The response is too often to meekly defend the former.
