It is a frightening thing that so many are so unconcerned with the truth so long as the primary narrative aligns with their worldview. Shouldn’t we digest all the info and then develop an evolving worldview rather than forming a rigid worldview and only absorbing that which aligns with it?

It’s got nothing to do with education, IMO. It doesn’t matter whether you have the ability to think critically if you don’t choose to do so. That is the bigger problem. You have highly intelligent people who believe in wacko conspiracy theories because believing an interesting lie is preferable to believing an uncomfortable truth.

I’d go a step further with that and say there are a lot of intelligent people who tacitly accept the “official” version of things without question and then labels anyone who digs deeper than surface level a wacko conspiracy theorist.

There’s always competing “official” views on things.

I think this old saying applies when it comes to people who believe in wacko conspiracy theories, regardless of whether they dig or not:  If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Is is wacko to question the official story of US involvement in the world wars? To question the Kennedy assassination? The moon landing? 9/11? Is it wacko not to question and dig below surface level on the events that shape the world we live in?

Maybe there is a reason "Occam's Razor" is a thing?

I guess it would depend on what you mean by “question.”

For example, what aspect of the “official story” are you questioning?   Whether the event occurred, how it happened or perhaps the causes.  And what is the basis for your questioning.  New evidence or information, or perhaps an improved understanding of the facts?

Let me put it more simply:  there's a pretty big difference between a person digging and raising questions about an official story of an event (again there may be competing versions) and a wacko arguing the event in some way is the result of a secret plot by powerful people.

The problem is that too many people don’t understand what “questioning” means. EVERYTHING should be questioned. Questioning the official story is not wacko. Believing an alternative story that has near zero evidence (and calling that “questioning”) is wacko.

https://news.yahoo.com/plane-flies-over-mar-lago-010318516.html

A plane was spotted flying over Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach Sunday with messages meant for Donald Trump, TMZ has learned.

"TRUMP WORST PRESIDENT EVER," one banner read, while the other said, "TRUMP YOU PATHETIC LOSER GO BACK TO MOSCOW."

Once a safe haven for Trump, Mar-a-Lago has also seemingly turned against him with members who have reportedly "silently walked out" since his departure from the White House. Some reportedly don't want to be associated with the one-term President while others have complained about the food being terrible. "It’s a sad place … it’s not what it was," Laurence Leamer, historian and author of Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump’s Presidential Palace, said.

$$$ well spent on those planes....Gelato probably still going there.
