"The original name of the Kennedy Center was the National Cultural Center, a project first envisioned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to create a central hub for American arts, later renamed as a living memorial to President John F. Kennedy after his assassination."
Did anyone else watch the Kennedy Center honors?
It was weird having a President host an event. Although hosting events might be his strength.
The show was pretty good. Not great, not bad.
Trump kept overt politics out of it.
All references were to the Kennedy Center.
The 5 honorees were fine, but sorry Donald, they don't "represent the totality of America."
George Straight, Michael Crawford, Kiss, Sylvester Stallone, and Gloria Gaynor. Notice anything all five have in common?
George Straight, who emerged as part of 1980's neo-traditional country, represents all of Country & Western? Very good choice.
Michael Crawford represents Broadway. Another solid choice.
Kiss: 70s hard/glam/stadium rockers represent all of Rock and Roll? Given limited options, not a bad choice.
Sly Stallone represents American Cinema. I guess Harvey Weinstein wasn't available?
Gloria Gaynor: a no-brainer for Disco.
There was a reference to gospel, don't recall which person. Gaynor?
That's is the totality of American performing arts? Apparently Blues/Jazz, Soul/Doo Wop, and Hip Hop/Rap don't exist in Trump's America?
