Trump declaring a national emergency and taking over the DC Police because there is a ton of crime?
This is just so fucked up. Big cities, shit happens. Why? Because there is a certain amount of the human population that is dysfunctional. The percentage in cities isn't particularly higher than anywhere else, but you have a larger net total, and it's visible to more people.
The mythology that Cities are OOH SCARY has been around for a long time and Trump is amplifying it. Is he doing it to curry favor with people who wouldn't move to or even visit cities even if there were zero crime? Maybe. Or maybe he's just an idiot. I'm betting idiot.
This whole "the cities are crime infested ratholes" is such an odd meme. I visit the Ozarks every year, despite it being a center of US Heroin production and money laundering by Mexican drug cartels, along with some serious white collar crime being coordinated through the Missouri legislature. Also - the place is fucking filthy, is there some sort of law in Missouri that all beer cans that become empty while you are driving must be thrown onto the side of the road?
But I still think the Ozarks rules and I will go back. Every place has it's issues.
