I have no idea and apparently Politico didn't want to mention it. All that I've seen is that forged documents and stolen identities were involved.

If E-Verify can't be trusted, that is a big problem, especially in Florida and Arizona where I believe you are required to use it

Yes. And if the employer is being truthful, then the forging of documents and identity theft is occurring before the employee is hired.
Any system can be exploited but it takes somebody to do the exploiting.

Why can't the Feds spot the forged documents in the E-Verify system? That was part of the reason for its existence.

Employers, and their employees handling the I-9s, are not experts in spotting forgeries. The Feds should be.

Since U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services published new guidance on issuing Notices to Appear (NTAs) on Feb. 28, it has initiated removal proceedings against more than 26,700 aliens with no legal basis to remain in the country.

The guidance is in response to President Trump’s Executive Order Protecting the American People Against Invasion. The guidance addresses national security, public safety, and the overall integrity of the United States immigration system by strengthening enforcement of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
