"A few facts for my non-L.A. friends and family. 1) People in Los Angeles are pissed that ICE has shown up and is literally grabbing people off the streets, out of business, at graduations and picking up people who have NO criminal records including children,
2) L.A. is a City of Immigrants - 1 out of 3 people here were born in another country,
3) the economy here relies on undocumented workers and these folks are part of our community,
4) There are no "riots" in Los Angeles - I lived through the 1992 Rodney King riots and what is happening now are not riots and nothing close to that situation,
5) There are protests in many places about what is happening with ICE coming into L.A. County and rounding people up - these are mainly peaceful and the issues with vandalism and violence is limited to a small area in DTLA,
6) There are protests in Los Angeles on a weekly basis and many of these have involved blocking freeways in and out of DTLA, this is nothing new and nothing that LAPD is not able to handle,
7) No one in L.A. City or County Government requested National Guard or Marines to come and "help" with this situation - the LAPD is quite militarized and has riot gear, tanks, and all kinds of equipment,
Congressional representatives asked to be allowed into the DTLA holding facility and were sprayed with chemicals by Federal Agents (this was NOT in the area where protests occurred but on the back side of the building)
9) ICE and Federal "police" officers who lack uniforms and ID and are wearing masks have shot rubber bullets AT people and sprayed people with teargas before ANY violence occurred and
10) L.A. DON'T PLAY WITH Fascism."
