No. the proclamation he put out to justify the guard is open ended and would allow him to do all sorts of things that are illegal. If he just wanted to protect a building, then that's what he should say.
Trump is causing this BS.
1) If they want to deport people, there have always been reasonable and proper protocols to do so, that don't require raids with masked people who may or may not be law enforcement. The tactics used are specifically being used because they will trigger blowback. He wants the blowback. The blowback and protests are what he wants. He could care less about some dude who gets up at 6 AM to stand outside home depot to try to get work doing bathroom demolition.
2) The blowback is good because it gives him a pretext to justify sending out the thugs to "quell the protests". Because he wants to be "Strong" and send out the thugs.
3) He knows that sending out the thugs changes the blowback from a "march" to "fuck you I'm going to burn this car", and he wants that
4) "fuck you i'm going to burn this car" means trump can ramp it up even more.
Trump is the Derek Chauvin of immigration enforcement.
Despite this - California still kicks Kentucky's ass up down and sideways.
The feds can go into workplaces with a judicial or admin warrant. Admin warrants you can tell them, adios, but they can hang in the public areas (your parking lot, lobby) and wait. Judicial, nope, they get to go where the warrant says they can go.
They can subpoena your I-9s, but have to give you some time to comply. If they have a judicial warrant, they can just take them.
So, these guys showing up at your warehouse door is not new news. What is the new news is the amount of raids and the militarization of ICE. All of which is permissible. Maybe not be smart in getting people to cooperate and not having protestors follow you around, but permissible nonetheless.
Shipping people off without a chance to object, not proper, as we have seen.
I didn't write the damn laws. If you don't like it, blame your local legislator. If you don't like the due process angles, blame the Republicans for not rewriting the laws. You don't like shipping off people who aren't causing trouble, blame the Dems for not rewriting the laws when they had the chance.
