The Trump admin list of demands for Harvard was hilarious. It was an Affirmative Action program for MAGAs.

Unless you're trying to take a billion from a place with 52 billion in endowment and plenty of donors who will fill the hole

So we didn’t need to be spending billions of taxpayer dollars on DEI programs at private universities?

On the same day that a jury in Maryland finds an illegal immigrant from El Salvador guilty of rape and murder of the mother of 5, protesters gather outside of the Maryland court house in support of a citizen of El Salvador who has appeared before 2 immigration judges who heard arguments regarding his MS-13 affiliations and have authorized his removal from the US demanding that he, a man the government says they have evidence of being a human trafficker, be returned from his native country to ......
Maryland.

Today's headline story in the fishwrap, brought to you by the NYT.

1. He is not a "Maryland" man.
2. He was not "wrongly deported".
3. Yes, the case reached SCOTUS who then sent it back to the judge who apparently didn't read or understand the directives from SCOTUS.
4. His deportation was not the result of an administrative error.
5. No, SCOTUS did not rule that he be returned to the US.
6. The case does not symbolize Trump's defiance of the courts. If anything the case symbolizes the defiance by the court of prior immigration court decisions.

Not bad for less than 4 paragraphs.

The only known crime the guy committed was unlawful entry. He was given permission by the immigration court to remain here. That permission was never withdrawn. He has received no new hearing.

We are paying El Salvador to detain him in one of the worst prisons in the world. Immigration officials admitted this was due to an administrative error, they missed the fact he had permission to be here.

The Supreme Court definitely ruled he should be returned to the United States and receive due process.

This reminds me of back in the day when one black man committed a crime, the entire black community was deemed guilty. There were even retaliations. The bigoted  right wing keeps pushing these buttons, there are going to be more Sikh Temples.

He had removal orders. He wasn't given permission to stay.
You have no idea if we're paying El Salvador. There's a good chance that we are not.
SCOTUS referred to facilitating his release, not his return. SCOTUS also told the judge to bear in mind foreign relations. If El Salvador wants to release him to his Mom, they are entitled to. They're not going to.

The application is granted in part and denied in part, subject to the direction of this order. Due to the administrative stay issued by The Chief Justice, the deadline imposed by the District Court has now passed. To that extent, the Government’s emergency application is effectively granted in part and the deadline in the challenged order is no longer effective. The rest of the District Court’s order remains in effect but requires clarification on remand. The order properly requires the Government to “facilitate” Abrego Garcia’s release from custody in El Salvador and to ensure that his case is handled as it would have been had he not been improperly sent to El Salvador. The intended scope of the term “effectuate” in the District Court’s order is, however, unclear, and may exceed the District Court’s authority. The District Court should clarify its directive, with due regard for the deference owed to the Executive Branch in the conduct of foreign affairs. For its part, the Government should be prepared to share what it can concerning the steps it has taken and the prospect of further steps. The order heretofore entered by The Chief Justice is vacated. (Detached Opinion) Statement of Justice Sotomayor, with whom Justice Kagan and Justice Jackson join, respecting the Court’s disposition of the application. (Detached Opinion)

Abrego Garcia illegally immigrated to the U.S. in 2011 at the age of 16. He had lived and worked in the country legally since 2019, when an immigration judge granted him "withholding of removal" status, a rare alternative to asylum, over the threat to his life from gang violence in El Salvador if deported. At the time of his deportation in 2025, he was living in Maryland with his wife and child, both American citizens, and reporting to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) annually.

What does withholding of removal mean to you? That status was granted while Trump was President and was never changed.

you said there was no error.

Mn claimed there was no error. The DOJ admitted there was an error. Now, magically, there is no error.

He was erroneously sent to where he was not supposed to be sent. It appears that if they sent him to Mexico, it would have been fine. But they did not. So there was an error.
