"From CNN’s Deidre McPhillips

An earlier version of this item incorrectly characterized as false Trump’s claim about federal money being spent for “making mice transgender.” The article has been updated with context about the spending, which was for research studies on the potential human health impacts of treatments used in gender-affirming care."

https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/04/politics/fact-check-trump-address-congress/index.html

So are you conceding that the entire CNN fact check is correct?

The studies cited don't add up to 8.3 million.

How about the funding for transgenic mice studies. Are you certain that wasn't eliminated too?

How about the funding for helping disabled children transition to adulthood?

Edit: confirmed. They mistook transgenic mice for transgender mice.

We won’t take your lunch money today.

So we’re going to do this ridiculous song and dance for the next four years.  What’s worse for the economy than tariffs?.   Indecision, unpredictability, instability etc.

He’s making it impossible to do business right now.  Shit or get off the pot.

This might be a good time to remember that 30 years ago, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine was the third largest nuclear power in the world. On December 5, 1994, the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, France, the UK, and the US signed a memorandum assuring Ukraine’s security in exchange for acceding its nuclear weapons.

In violation of that agreement, Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014, annexing Crimea and Donbas.  In 2022, Russia invaded once again, and this time, they did not limit themselves to the east, but began strikes on Kyiv almost immediately.  It was an all-out assault.

Everyone thought Ukraine, and the newly-elected Zelensky, a comedian with no political experience, was done for. The US offered to evacuate the president.

“The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride,” Zelensky replied.

Zelensky transformed in that moment into a world leader.  Other Ukrainian leaders had not been so honorable.  The Russian puppet, Viktor Yanukovych, rose to power with the aid of Trump’s former campaign manager. Paul Manafort was instrumental in his reign, including in the decision to turn guns on protestors in the Maidan Massacre.

So no one was expecting this short funny guy to don camouflage and call on his countrymen to stay with him and fight.  But he did, and so did plumbers, grocers, taxi drivers, and wedding planners. Oleksandr Shapoval, a ballet soloist with the National Opera of Ukraine volunteered, learning to operate a grenade launcher.  He was killed in battle.

No one thought they would last a month.  But they’re still standing.  Thanks to people like you and me, people who never imagined themselves as fighters, Ukraine has been holding the line against Russian aggression for three years now.

Nearly 13,000 civilian Ukrainian men, women, and children have been killed, and over 29,000 injured. Entire towns have been decimated. At least 210,000 buildings have been destroyed -- schools, hospitals, homes.

And yet, Russia’s losses have been far worse: 95,000 dead, mostly draftees. Over 16,000 Russian soldiers were conscripted from penal colonies.

Contrary to what 47 wants the world to believe, Ukraine is winning this war.  Russia has been – until Trump’s return to Washington – completely isolated on the world stage, its major exports sanctioned, expelled from the G8, shunned by all but his fellow autocrats. Putin had to quell a popular uprising against the war by jailing over 1300 protestors.  Russia’s GDP has fallen by more than 5% in the last few years. 70% of their banking assets, $300 billion of Russian Central Bank reserves are blocked. One can safely assume that Putin has held on as long as he has because he and his orange sycophant have been conspiring about how – together -- they would extort Zelensky to concede to their terms.

The military aid the US has provided is not some act of generosity, as the dual Putin mouthpieces insist. It is the obligation of the US per the Budapest agreement to assure Ukraine’s security, since the nation, pressed by other countries, sacrificed the nuclear weapons that would have insured its borders were respected. And that aid was not “given” to Zelensky by Trump, but by Congress, the only body that has the power of the purse. Indeed, it was Donald’s withholding of that congressionally approved aid for the purposes of extorting Zelensky for dirt on his opponent that triggered the first impeachment.

It seems today’s ambush, with menacing threats by Trump & his mini-me, was all part of the plot to bring Zelensky to his knees, make him quiver in fear, and beg for a lifeline.

But Zelensky didn’t take the bait. He left Washington without a peace deal, but uncompromised by the thugs now occupying the Oval Office, the first US heads of state to side with a violent dictatorship over an attacked democracy.

It’s hard to look back in modern history and find leaders to truly admire.  FDR, MLK, Churchill.  But I believe it is not hyperbole to suggest that Volodymyr Zelensky will take his place among those leaders.  And these two blustering, blubbering, petty schoolyard bullies will be relegated to America’s Hall of Shame.

Trump openly wants NATO to be US led and strong, just not with the US bankrolling more than our fair share.
That's been a significant issue in NATO for years that... was addressed at the 2014 summit where conservative Obama appointee Chuck Hagel finally secured commitments from everyone to contribute at least 2% of GDP. The timeline for that was a decade so Trump essentially inherited an agreement that was already in place and making fair but slow progress. Every NATO country except the UK out-increased the US in defense and contributions to NATO, and the UK was already at the threshold. Our % of NATO's direct budget dropped from around 20% IIRC to 15%, which is equal to Germany. UK/France are at 10%. So... we had a problem paying more than our fair share, it was addressed at multiple past summits under the Bush/Obama admins, and the EU stepped up quite a bit in response. Imagine being a country like Poland who massively ramped up defense spending when your neighbor got invaded and you have to listen to this asshole tell you you're not paying your fair share when you're pumping 4% of GDP into defense and your standard of living is notably lower than the US.

The idea that there's any strong leadership approach to NATO that doesn't include an open door for Ukraine if they want membership is absurd.

Has the guy ever followed a treaty contract?  Just in case that message wasn’t already communicated by Trump violating the USMCA that he himself signed and touted.  As long as Trump is President, the U.S. will not be a reliable NATO partner, regardless of individual contributions.  He'll keep moving the goalposts.  There’s a very real chance we won’t even be part of NATO by the time his term is over.

Should the US, a massive economy on the other side of the Atlantic, match the GDP commitment of an Eastern European country that sits fairly close to Russia? Moreover, why does Poland really have anything to be worried about? Putin isn’t coming for them.

I couldn’t disagree more about accepting Ukraine into NATO. Alum keeps saying our word isn’t worth anything…he would be 100% right in this case. Extending NATO to a former Russian territory, that sits on their border, would be a disaster.

Sadly this makes sense.  And Trump/Krasnov probably thinks nuclear non-proliferation is like DEI.

From the article, sounds like Trump is getting his point across:

Quote
He insisted that Europe has the economic potential to stand up to Russia.
“Our deficit has been the lack of the will to act, having no confidence, and sometimes even cowardice. But Russia will be helpless against united Europe,” Tusk said, adding: “It’s striking but it’s true. Right now, 500 million Europeans are begging 300 million Americans for protection from 140 million Russians who have been unable to overcome 50 million Ukrainians for three years."

They have explored the option to be under France’s nuclear umbrella, not build their own program.

The man himself is saying they should be more self-reliant, as should Europe as a whole. He even said that Putin doesn’t pose a threat to a united Europe with or without the US. Same message Trump has been trying to send for a decade. Same one I have been saying lately.

A lot of this whole “Trump is aligning with Moscow” BS is just red meat nonsense aimed at the TDS crowd, backed by weak euro leaders who have come to depend on the US and don’t want to lose their cash cow Trying to get Putin to the table to end the war is not aligning with him. There’s a near zero chance Putin attacks Poland, nukes or not.
