Note when this graph conveniently starts?

'Over the last several years, the number of migrants attempting to cross a U.S. border without prior authorization to enter the country has surged. The surge began in 2019, with a 65 percent increase in border crossing attempts compared with 2018. The outbreak of COVID-19 interrupted the surge but does not appear to have meaningfully altered its trajectory. This dramatic rise in crossing attempts – from around 50,000 per month before 2020 to more than 300,000 in 2023 – can largely be traced to an evolving set of idiosyncratic factors unrelated to the pandemic driving migration flows: interstate and internal armed conflict, state failure and gang violence, as well as strong economic conditions in the U.S. relative to other countries.

These guys didn't mention anything about Biden causing a surge with campaign rhetoric promising better treatment of asylum seekers.

well, we're not fucked, but it will be interesting. 25% chance, we split up the country. That will be bad but have some tangible benefits, for example California won't get kneecapped on climate initiatives so we can make better progress, and the red states will be too broke to buy gasoline, which helps too

The 2020 California wildfires alone undid 20 years of carbon reduction by power plants. You’re the ones fucking up our air!

Quote
Researchers are increasingly calling attention to how forest fires might be eroding the state’s climate goals, with UCLA scientists describing the state’s efforts as “up in smoke.”

Michael Jerrett, a professor at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, said nearly two decades worth of emission reductions from power plants were threatened by the 2020 fires, which included some of California’s largest and most destructive fires.

“Essentially, the positive impact of all that hard work over almost two decades is at risk of being swept aside by the smoke produced in a single year of record-breaking wildfires,” Jerrett said in a statement.

Your logic is that A preceded B, therefore A caused B. You look at once ant hill of evidence and conclude iit caused the surge. You completely ignore a mountain of other factors, because they don't support an agenda.

I don't call that sad. It's just typical.

Sure there are other factors. You seem to think the administration had nothing to do with it and they were powerless to stop it because Trump. That’s not accurate either.

Walsh is a lying asshole. We have been sending 10 flights a month to Colombia for the last 4 years. I bet you didn't even know that. The objection was to how they are being treated.

We should fly the illegals back first class in a Concorde. I wonder if the Biden debit cards and phones work in Bogotá? Can you hear me now?

Yep. The old boy network is alive and kicking. Is the current backlash a recovery or death throes?

I am not going to persuade Custard or MN with unbiased facts, but it is a good mental exercise.

Aligns with The COVID ending and the job marketing bursting at the seams. Nonetheless, Joe obviously did not help. But if there were no jobs to be had, they would not have been showing up....we know that is the history.

"What I would do as president is several more things," Biden said at the first Democratic primary debate for the 2020 election. "I would in fact make sure that there is… We immediately surge to the border, all those people who are seeking asylum."

The 1st Presidential debate was months before the 1st US Covid case. And well before the Biden border crossing app.
And there was no mention of Covid or jobs.

There are unbiased sources—even some left leaning—that say the administration had plenty to do with it. The millions of people who voted for Biden in 2020 that didn’t vote for Harris in 2024 weren’t buying what you’re selling either.

Over time, yes those things mattered. But the vaccines were just rolling out in December of 2020 and were still allocated for at risk folks. It was far from over. The only thing that fundamentally changed that caused the big spike starting in January 2021 was Biden assuming office. And you know a lot of the 2022 and 2023 invasion sized spike was all these people getting in and telling people back home to hurry up and get up here too.

There were lots of deportation flights  under Biden.  More than 270,000 removed in FY 2023.

Biden ended the failed Remain in Mexico and Zero Tolerance policies that encouraged "Entries Without Inspection" and created massive  backlogs.

Immigration from the Golden Triangle declined sharply.

Biden got a deal for a bipartisan border bill to.honestly address the structural problems. What happened to that?
