other than forcing everyone to get a vaccine, what was fascist about his presidency

I'd say he was a populist

There’s different types of populism. There’s Bernie Sanders populism, then there’s Trump populism. One is rooted in democracy and egalitarianism, the other nationalism and demagoguery.
Wanting America to be better is not America-hating, it’s patriotism.

Too bad Trump ordered the Republican leaders in Congress to kill the bi-partisan border security bill earlier this year.  In addition to providing more border personnel and upgrading security technology, it authorized more than $650 million in funding for border wall construction.

The Democrats said the wall was racist and xenophobic and wasteful when Trump wanted to build it. Now far left Alum is complaining that Republicans blocked funding for it. Can’t make this stuff up folks.

PS that border security bill was garbage. Biden and the Border Czar had all the tools at their disposal to rein in the mass illegal immigration but refused to do anything until they realized it was a big threat to their chances of staying in power.

Exactly. But 8 plus years of “Trump
is Hitler” brainwashing has turned these peoples’ brains to oatmeal.

If fucking Biden remembered who got him into office when he was governing, this wouldn't have even been an issue.

The border security issue wasn't going to be solved by Trump or Biden through piecemeal executive orders and funding sleight of hands.  The immigration system requires an overhaul and this won't happen until Congress decides to address the issue in a bipartisan manner.

All Biden had to do was not rescind Trump border executive orders. But he did. He forgot that black people from SC got him elected instead of Progressive morons.

Then their leaders in Congress should have made immigration reform and border security a higher priority in the first couple of years of the Biden administration.

It didn't matter because Biden decided he was going to suck Progressive cock. Now it will be part of the reason Progressive Kamala Is For They/Them is going to lose

Of course it would have mattered.  But I don't think immigration reform was a priority for the progressives either.

I believe Biden made a strategic mistake in the early days of his administration.  I agree he should have kept the Trump policies temporarily in place, except for the wall construction measures.  He could scale those back. This would have made everyone unhappy, which would be a good thing.

And then he should have privately told Schumer and McConnell to negotiate a deal by the end of November and commit to supporting it unconditionally.  Stay out of the negotiations, but publicly support the effort.

Zero tolerance clogged up immigration courts with people whose only crime was misdemeanor unlawful entry.

Trump's effort to punish Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras failed. Immigration from those three countries declined on Harris's watch. Maybe diplomacy helped?

Remain in Mexico pissed Mexico off

The new surges from Venezuela, Cuba, and Haiti overwhelmed the system.

The bipartisan bill that Trump vetoed sucked anyway. The system needs a fundamental overhaul.

Start with decriminalizing unlawful entry. Go after real criminals. Then identify the businesses that are hiring illegals. Work with them to set up guest worker programs.

Do what can be done to help the shit-holes that emigrants are fleeing.

wtf are we even talking about?

June 27, 2024
The 1.1 million deportations since the beginning of fiscal year (FY) 2021 through February 2024 (the most recent data available) are on pace to match the 1.5 million deportations carried out during the four years President Donald Trump was in office. These deportations are in addition to the 3 million expulsions of migrants crossing the border irregularly that occurred under the pandemic-era Title 42 order between March 2020 and May 2023—the vast majority of which occurred under the Biden administration. Combining deportations with expulsions and other actions to block migrants without permission to enter the United States, the Biden administration’s nearly 4.4 million repatriations are already more than any single presidential term since the George W. Bush administration (5 million in its second term).

yeah I mean caring about the country you live in and not wanting to turn it into some third world dumping ground sure is evil

not saying trump actually cares about either of those things but the point stands, "nationalism" is just as useless as the "racism" tag these days

Nationalism is a form.of bigotry; promoting the interests of one's own nation at the expense and exclusion of others.

Patriotism is loyalty to and wanting what is best for one's country.

It's a useful distinction even if it goes over the heads of semiliterate wingnuts.
