
Who knows if it was staged or not, but Rocks shows have now sold out 2 and half months in advance after that little charade which wasn't occurring before the slap and the Oscars ratings have been trending terribly for the last decade.

Looks like easy math to me. This year's Oscars rose by 56% just from last year.

They've definitely been trending lower but ...
Over the past decade or so the question of "how many of the nominees have I seen in the theatre" kept having a lower and lower number for me, but only because going to a movie meant a babysitter, and if I haven't seen the movies what do I care who wins?
In the pandemic, nobody has been going to the movies. And even with streaming (CODA won best picture from a streaming site) - when you go to the major streaming sites the big hitters are things like Big Little Lies, Ozark, etc... serials which don't fall into the nominee categories.
