Watched this at my Purdue fan neighbors’ who were doing their best to be polite and not openly root against the Illini since we stood to go 4-0 to their 1-2. They had to settle for celebrating the IU win through clenched teeth.

No surprise we struggled against their length without Kofi to draw double and triple teams. That’s the Achilles heel of this team, and a Curbelo return does nothing to help it. But we survived an ice cold shooting night by multiple excellent shooters by adjusting to attacking the basket and locking down on defense. We very obviously hedge off non-shooters in order to get in position to rebound, and usually it works very well, but it did burn us several times tonight.

Even when Md made their run I wasn’t concerned. Just one of those games I felt confident in the matchup.

They beat Duke and pummeled Wisconsin. Didn’t lose to all the bad teams they played. That’s usually enough to get a team a top 15 ranking going into the meat of conference play.

Ultimately I think they’ll play more to their preseason expectations going forward, Chris Holtmann magic be damned.

I think the B1G title is Illinois’ to lose at this point. Purdue is prone to long stretches without scoring and we have the bigs to neutralize theirs. But they’ll rack up plenty of wins not playing us.

MSU hasn’t beaten anyone and got blown out by the one good team they played. We’ll get homered at Mackey and Breslin, and will probably drop a couple of head scratchers along the way when shots aren’t falling or Kofi gets in foul trouble or is allowed to be mugged at will.

At this point I think 15-5 probably wins the regular season conference title. Indiana poses an unexpected threat. I think we will handle them okay but they’ll also rack up plenty of wins not playing us.
