I’m like 15 years late to the bourbon craze but here I am. Anyone else gotten into it? I’m not doing the Blantons and Pappy level shit but am enjoying collecting some nice store picks and whatnot.

Thanks. I have collected a fair amount of mid priced store pick/barrel proof bourbons to enjoy occasionally.

My current objective is to find a cheap bottled in bond lower-mid shelf bourbon to keep in the crystal decanter I found at TJ Maxx.

I like Blackened, the Metallica whiskey. The tavern down the street has it.

I’m a big bourbon guy. Just picked up a bottle of Eagle Rare last night at the local County Market. In a Dark Water Society Bourbon Club. It’s a pretty cool hobby. Get to taste/try really expensive ones for like $10-$20. We all chip in to equal the cost of the bottle. Try 2 new bourbons a month.

1792 has a good bottle in bond. Not a bad price either.

Scotch (preferably single malt), or you’re a pussy.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

Which expensive ones have you done? And how expensive?

WhistlePig The Boss Hog VII Magellan’s Atlantic - about $500-$700 a bottle depending on it you can find it.

Weller 12 year - between $350-$450 a bottle depending on if you can find it.

Not tried any Pappy Van Winkle yet. Just too damn expensive.

The thing with bourbon is kind what Rob said. Just find something you like and drink it however you want. I like to drink all mine neat and not an ice guy. So all my tastes and favorites are based on that. There’s a lot of snobs that drink stuff. The reason some of these cost so much isn’t because they’re so good, it’s just hard to find. Buffalo Trace which distills Blanton’s and Eagle Rare for example hold back distribution to raise the price. Just like what the diamond industry did to make them valuable.

My personal top 5:

1. Blanton’s- it’s just so damn smooth and great to sip on. Just so hard to find.
2. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
3. Koval Single Barrel
4. E.H. Taylor Small Batch
5. Pretty much anything made by Barrell Craft Spirits. Love their Dovetail, but it’s just a whiskey, not a bourbon.

There’s just so many to list honestly. Great hobby!

The Macallan, The Balvenie, and The Glenlivet are good scotch’s.

I prefer the taste of the corn for bourbon instead of the barley for scotch. Most scotch tastes more like dirt after having a good bourbon.

Can't go wrong with Woodford.  Like Eagle Rare, it's top flight.

I have a soft spot for the Old Grand Dad, because my Old Grand Dad drank it. It's a little bitter by comparison.

Four Roses is the most overrated/hyped and aggressively marketed bourbon I've seen, ever. It's 80° right? That means it's for girls.

I had some fun doing little samples of these tonight during the game.

I think it’s funny that the person on the bottle of Old Grand Dad is Basil Hayden. I wanted a bottle as it’s an affordable high rye mash bill that’s bottled in bond. You’re right, it’s not a super smooth sipper but got it more for making OF/Manhattans.

The Four Roses is the single barrel version which is bottled at 100 proof. It’s fairly well regarded, especially compared to their flagship crap, and single barrel expressions aren’t that easy to come by for ~$40 so figured I’d give it a shot. I thought it was great at first sip but there was a bit more cinnamon in the finish than I’d prefer.

I have really liked the Woodford DO ever since getting into bourbon, I usually order it at bars and my neighbor buddies have it. But this is the first bottle I’ve bought. I got a store pick bottle of regular Woodford a month or two ago that’s also great. Woodford is probably my favorite mainstream brand at this point.

The 1792 is a single barrel store pick bottled at 125 proof. I sampled it at the store and immediately went and grabbed one. I won’t open it til I have some friends over. It’s pretty special.

The Old Tub is is a BiB unfiltered resurrection of the original Jim Beam bourbon before it was tweaked and watered down for the mainstream after prohibition. It’s got enough punch for cocktails but definitely good enough to drink straight.

Really liked the Belle Meade. A local bourbon aficionado told me it was really good, especially for its price point. He has yet to steer me wrong.
