Would you agree that he was a 1st team All-American? Which, would seem to correlate with being quite good?

Well, that is an actual fact that he was an AA. And yes all would agree he was a quite good college player. 
I guess we just have different view here.

NBA Scouts and GMs don’t draft according to how good you were in college, they draft for what they think you’ll become. Patrick Williams didn’t even start in college and was the 4th pick.

I think there were definitely 8 better players in NCAAbb last year than Ayo

Been hearing this for many years. Again, that’s more of a coaching issue. A team can always use one of the best players in the country.
