-The team deferred a lot to Ayo. Ayo wasn’t a great outside shooter. Trent is going to pick up a fair amount of the void left by Ayo and we already have the proof he can do it.
-The results when Ayo was out speak for themselves. The Michigan beat down was probably the best performance of the entire season. And Michigan fared the best in the tourney of any B1G team.
-We have added shooters with length. And Plummer, while short, is a known quantity at the P5 level. He more than replaces AcePuppy.
-We have added a lengthy athletic rim runner that can defend mobile and undersized bigs which was a huge weakness for the team last year
-I’d bet that the staff (Tim Anderson, who develops prospects for the NBa draft, most likely) has worked really hard on teaching Kofi to pass to these new shooters we have.
All these guys are a year older. Curbelo is going to be incredible. From all reports it sounds like Hutcherson will contribute. Grandison was really solid down the stretch last year and hasn’t even really been talked about in the off season because so many of the other pieces have been getting the attention.
The core of this team learned how to win tough games last year but also stubbed their toe big time in the tourney. Kinda like Virginia did the year before they broke through. You know that loss to Loyola has to be motivating them (and the staff) more than anything they could point to at this time last year.
-Losing Ayo doesn’t make us better. It’s all these other things that I think will make us better despite losing Ayo.
