Butler chose the Illini over a trio of in-state schools: Stanford, San Francisco, and UC Santa Barbara, among many other low and mid major offers. Butler has not been highly recruited, but the Illini staff is extremely high on his potential and sees him as part of their future backcourt.

A less than inspiring offer list on 247, and some thoughts from Jase from 247's Dushawn London ....
On UC Santa Barbara: "They do a great job with their guards and let them run free.”

On San Francisco: "They also give their guards a lot of freedom to showcase their skills.”

On Illinois: “It was a great visit and coach Underwood is a great coach who wins a lot in the Big-10. They have room for a point guard and I can see myself making an impact in that big time conference.”

From London: “They’re getting a high IQ point guard with great feel positional size, likes to make other people better and win.”
