We would never do anything like spying on or bribing foreign officials.

"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

Is one of those guys a basketball recruit?

They reportedly can hit their free shots.

I scouted the 4 Illini commits tonight.  Took a deep dive into their highlights, athleticism, etc.  Here are my findings:

Sencire Harris:  awkward long lanky lefty. Very athletic, but high dribbler. He’s a guy that would be best becoming a defensive stopper.  Looks very awkward on offense off the dribble.

Jayden Epps:  I think he’s great. He’s a Carsen Edwards clone.  Good size, explosion, score anywhere.  He’s better than any guard Illinois had last year.  He should start every game.

Skye Clark- not seeing anything special here.  Good stroke from 3. He looks fundamentally sound.  For as awkward as Harris looks, Clark is a natural.  But lack of athleticism and blow by ability means he’s probably Geo Baker or Rich McBride at the college level.

Ty Rodgers-  strong athlete, limited skills. Undersized 4. Ideally he becomes like a Ja’Sean Tate but very few guys can actually make that work.  I could see him washing out.  Lot of hype over bearing Michigan State for him but I don’t see much skill with him.

So I think Illinois has 1 great All Conference lever player (Epps), a project (Harris), a low ceiling reliable starter (Clark), and a guy that I think belongs at a level lower than the Big 10 (Rodgers).

Interested to hear others opinions

Nailed all these before they even stepped foot on campus.
Epps is better than Clark.
Rodgers isn’t a Big 10 level player.
Harris is a defensive stopper.

Also nailed that Mayer would suck.

You’re welcome.

Clark is not pushing it yet, but he is obviously a far superior athlete than McBride. His athleticism  (quicker, faster, better hops) gives him a higher ceiling than than Epps, provided the knee holds up.

For his part, Epps looks a skilled, polished basket player with a high floor.

Everyone was comparing Harris to Gill & Head coming in. He has been better offensively than expected.

Long way to go on Rodgers. Nothing to indicate he does not belong at the B1G level. If he shot the ball like Epps or Clark, he'd have been a blue blood  5 star recruit.

Iirc Mayer got a late start. He has also been playing with back issues.

I guess I was aotc on Dainja. The only thing, I figured he'd be slimmer. I also feel no need to toot my own horn.

What were you saying about Dainja? It is okay to be wrong. We all have our takes and miss-takes. I thought Tevian Jones was under rated and going to be a stud for us.

McBride in HS was far more athletic than Sky Clark is.  Sky Clark is another Mark Smith possibly.  In fact their freshman stats are quite similar.   But Smith I think was more athletic. Clark is too bulky, and just doesn’t do much on the court.  McBride wasn’t asked to play PG much if at all at Illinois but if he had he’d have looked very similar to how Clark looks now.  Both put too many pounds on. As for the other guys…

How many 6’5 and under players that can’t shoot jump shots are high D1 players?  None I can think of. . That’s why Rodgers doesn’t have a position at this level.  He should be on the football field.

I compared Dainja to Pruitt.  That’s his ceiling.

It’s easy to see on tape Epps can score and Harris is the best basketball athlete on the time outside of Shannon.

Mayer’s not going to get any better.  What you are seeing this year is exactly what he was like at Baylor last year.  A low % shooter that takes shots way out of rhythm on offense.

The jury is still out on a lot of this, and I’ve even been lambasted for agreeing with some of what you’ve said, especially about Clark. But the Dainja analogy is absolutely awful. He’s not even close to the same type of player as Pruitt other than they both suck at free shots.

https://fightingillini.com/news/2022/12/20/mens-basketball-perrin-joins-fighting-illini.aspx

The Frenchy is joining the team.

Can't think I've ever seen that happen, with the immediate eligibility.
