You really really seem to go out of your way to downplay anything Underwood does.
Hulka went 9-9 in reg season league play @ OSU (in his first year after taking over for a coach who got fired for losing too much) They then lost to a ranked ISU squad in B12 tourney so yes they technically finished below .500 in league play that season.
Hulka went well below .500 twice at UI (after taking over for a coach who was fired for losing too much)
After two rebuilding years, Hulka won like 29 reg season B1G games the last two regular seasons at UI.
His seasons at SFA were remarkable regardless of what level they are (now vacated)
He has found a way to win every place he’s been. It’s kind of strange to constantly act like the sky is falling and that he’s in over his head.
I’ve said it several times before and I’ll say it again: I think it’s much more likely he ends up in trouble with the NCAA or gets hired away than fired for not winning enough here.
No need to go out of my way. The guy kind of fell into this job after a very mediocre season at OSU. Nobody gives a fck about SFA.
I bet most fans cannot even name the conference they were in.
We had a very good stretch in February in what turned out to be a pretty average league. The entire BT was total shit in the tourney.
He is an average coach at P5 so far by any measure. Not terrible, but nothing special. You are a just a homer.
His game prep and coaching in the NCAA tournament was possibly the the worst I have ever seen.
His biggest and really only asset of note is creating a culture of toughness and effort and they did not come ready to play in the NCAA.
Yeah- he was in way over his head as far as X's and O's and always has been. Hopefully he will expand his skills along the way.
As far as him leaving- I honestly think it would make little difference. He is pretty much just a guy.
They sky isn't falling, but we are just another P5 team trying to claw our way out of the barrel.
Hopefully they do not fall back down after next year which will be OK.
They better find a PG, a 4, and a post somewhere for '22.
