Who spiked the Kool Aid? This was actually posted on Loyalty. Presumably by a human person.

I am extremely happy with the first two AC hires. We lost three because we chose high impact fast turnaround type hires and it was a huge success. We now can play the long game from a position of strength. We have outstanding guards, solid post players and versatile wings available for the next two seasons. There has been minimum upheaval so far and I have faith in JW and Coach Underwood to steady the ship.
Illinois must be weighing the top options, trying to lure their top pick or possibly waiting for a pro to exit the playoffs.

All the stuff there is like that. Anyone who questions the staff or timing is quickly attacked.

I think Whitman is interested in being competitive, but he and Hulka do appear butthurt by the exits and are on a loyalty kick. I think they are looking for a bigger impact guy for the lead spot.

I see illininutt has relocated his Asperger’s Twitter Bot show to Loyalty.

I was actually thinking there was a more critical vibe than usual. Sure there are the usual sunshine and rainbows guys but also plenty of poignant concerns being expressed. Plenty of people not very pleased with how things have gone since the Loyola game.

They probably weren't all that pleased with the Loyola game, either.

Our fans are the dumbest in the country, hands down.  They thought we were "back" because Nick Irvin loaned Ayo to us and Antigua dropped a bag on Kofi.

I think some are trying to explain the lack of information. It seems like a lot of the smoke was coming from other fan boards. Now there is nothing.

I suppose it is possible that nobody qualified wants the job and they just gave up. There are more likely explanations for the silence though.

I heard they had a top guy almost locked up, but found out he has used periods in texts. Not a good look if that came out. Plus, we want players and recruits to feel safe.

The posters on 247 and Loyalty are of opinion our program is back to top tier status and that Hulka is a pretty elite coach.
The BT turned out to be a mediocre league as many suspected which we ran through in the last month. We had fallen to around Top 20 before we got our head out of our ass and decided to try and guard somebody. We were really more of a Top 15-20 team overall it turned out. Not a great team at all, but pretty good at times. Fell apart completely in tourney obviously.

Credit to the team and staff, but reality is Hulka has been below .500 overall in P5 league games in 3 out of 5 seasons.
We should be NCAA team this year in the 7-10 seed range. Might even be more fun to watch this year rather than Ayo dominating the ball and trying to stuff it down to Kofi while the other guys stand around.

We need a serious recruiter. We could be Top 25 most years if we do that. Would be nice to make a S16 every few years.........

LOL. Yes, periods in texts are apparently seen as an aggressive maneuver.
Have no idea what is going on with the lead recruiter spot. Sounds like they had Huss, but he backed off.
They likely are looking outside the box now as our top P5 targets have not worked out.

I am sure they are working hard to find a solid guy and will do so.
We are just a pretty garden variety second tier P5 school right now, and rural Illinois is not an attraction.

A 1 seed and ranked 2nd in country in last AP poll is about as back as Illinois gets but yeah

You really really seem to go out of your way to downplay anything Underwood does.

Hulka went 9-9 in reg season league play @ OSU (in his first year after taking over for a coach who got fired for losing too much) They then lost to a ranked ISU squad in B12 tourney so yes they technically finished below .500 in league play that season.

Hulka went well below .500 twice at UI (after taking over for a coach who was fired for losing too much)

After two rebuilding years, Hulka won like 29 reg season B1G games the last two regular seasons at UI.

His seasons at SFA were remarkable regardless of what level they are (now vacated)

He has found a way to win every place he’s been. It’s kind of strange to constantly act like the sky is falling and that he’s in over his head.

I’ve said it several times before and I’ll say it again: I think it’s much more likely he ends up in trouble with the NCAA or gets hired away than fired for not winning enough here.

Agreed. Although I still expect his likeliest exit is next year to KSU.

The question is, "will whitman let him do what he needs to do to succeed?"  Underwood needs bag-droppers.  We just lost two of them.  Not sure the University is going to let him pick up another one, given our historically corn-pone culture.

No need to go out of my way. The guy kind of fell into this job after a very mediocre season at OSU. Nobody gives a fck about SFA.
I bet most fans cannot even name the conference they were in.
We had a very good stretch in February in what turned out to be a pretty average league. The entire BT was total shit in the tourney.

He is an average coach at P5 so far by any measure. Not terrible, but nothing special. You are a just a homer.
His game prep and coaching in the NCAA tournament was possibly the the worst I have ever seen.
His biggest and really only asset of note is creating a culture of toughness and effort and they did not come ready to play in the NCAA.
Yeah- he was in way over his head as far as X's and O's and always has been. Hopefully he will expand his skills along the way.

As far as him leaving- I honestly think it would make little difference. He is pretty much just a guy.
They sky isn't falling, but we are just another P5 team trying to claw our way out of the barrel.
Hopefully they do not fall back down after next year which will be OK.
They better find a PG, a 4, and a post somewhere for '22.
