Imagine being in a jail cell with some badass dude. You ask what he did. He says he threw battery acid in some ho's face. Asks why you're there. You say you took a leak.
It's not about the leak. It's about being on a bike. Cops hate cyclists. There's a road near here with a T intersection, it's a 3 way stop, with a bike lane running along the top of the T. They started running stings to catch cyclists running the stop sign - cyclists tend to roll it because there is no cross traffic to the bike lane. In a car, if you run it, you could collide with a left turning vehicle.
Talking to a friend who got tagged there, he pointed that out and the cop said "You could get hit by a car that overshoots the lane and turns into the bike lane". He then asked the cop "if there is a problem with cars overshooting the lane, why aren't you running a sting and ticketing drivers turning into the bike lane?" Before the cop could even answer, he then said "or ticket that car that just rolled the stop sign?
The cop dryly answered "We are out here today doing enforcement on cyclists, not motor vehicles"
Of course we are all techies, and someone did a deep dive into the vehicle code, and it turns out that the stop line on the pavement was painted just in the primary lane, and stopped at the white line that delineates the bike lane. As such, since the stop line wasn't in the bike lane, the stop sign doesn't apply, and they beat the ticket.
Clearly there are no pressing issues for DPW in the area because within a week, they repainted the line extending into the bike lane.
