Can people survive without the internet?
Yes. People can absolutely survive without the internet—humans lived for thousands of years without it, and even today, individuals can live without internet access.
The bigger issue is that modern society depends heavily on it:
🏠 Basic survival: Food, water, shelter, and physical safety don't inherently require the internet.
📞 Communication: You could use phone calls, radio, mail, or face-to-face communication.
💵 Money: Cash and some offline payment systems can work, although banking and electronic payments would become much harder.
🏥 Healthcare: Hospitals can operate without the public internet, but many modern systems rely on networks for records, coordination, and equipment.
🛒 Food and supplies: Stores could operate temporarily, but supply chains, logistics, inventory, and ordering would be severely disrupted.
🚨 Emergencies: Emergency services could still function, but coordination and access to information would become more difficult.
If you mean “What if the entire world lost the internet tomorrow?”, that's a much more dramatic scenario. People would survive, but the first days or weeks could involve major disruptions to banking, transportation, communications, commerce, and supply chains.
So: humans don't need the internet to survive; modern civilization has become highly dependent on it.
