Shouldn't Gaines pay the "dude" she tied for 5th with? The NCAA putting him/her on the dias and not Gaines is what started her road to "fame."

The NCAA giving a trophy that doesn't say "Participant" to someone finishing 5th is the real crime here. I don't recall TSJ and Domask getting up on a dias to get a "Elite 8" trophy.
