The ones that are settling want upcoming mergers etc. to go through. It is not the news divisions calling the shots here.

Interesting spin that seeking accountability for the deceptively edited CBS interview is “troubling” while the editing itself just ahead of an election is A-OK.

Didn't the preview that they trotted out include the unedited version, and then the network used the edited reply during their Sunday morning program ?

It's understandable why they didn't show some of the clips.

Interesting spin that seeking accountability for the deceptively edited CBS interview is “troubling” while the editing itself just ahead of an election is A-OK.

First, there is no evidence the interview was edited with any intent to decieve. Second, even it were; see the First Amendment. Nothing in the Interview defamed or harmed Trump. You want Fox News, Truth Social, et al to be held accountable for misinformation?

Free Speech and Free Press

Quote
"Mr. Trump’s lawsuit against CBS, filed in Texas in October, accuses the broadcaster of deceptively editing a “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris"

"[Trump] argue(s) that the news outlets deliberately hoodwinked the public, in violation of state consumer protection laws."

"[CBS] said they followed normal editorial practices ..."

"Using state consumer protection laws to punish the media offers an alternate line of attack"

"In 2020, a nonprofit group sued Fox News for spreading misinformation about Covid-19; a judge in Washington State threw out that suit, saying its claim that news coverage violated consumer-protection laws “runs afoul of the protections of the First Amendment.”'

"There was no evidence in the complaint that CBS edited the interview in a manipulative fashion, instead of for clarity or brevity. There was no evidence that the interview misled viewers or damaged Mr. Trump. And it was unclear what legal standing Mr. Trump had to bring a lawsuit in Texas, where he does not live and which was not the site of the interview."

"But filing the suit in Amarillo meant it would be heard by Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee who has been hospitable to conservative lawsuits that many lawyers regard as meritless."

wtf are you talking about? 60 minutes is Sunday night?  Right?

Everything has now  been 'trotted out:"

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-publishes-transcripts-video-requested-by-fcc/

"The transcript validates the network's argument that it was engaging in standard journalistic practice by using a more "succinct" segment of Harris' response to the Israel question than the one that was featured in a preview on Face the Nation the day before. And it shows that Trump has not only absurdly exaggerated what happened (as is his wont); he has flagrantly misrepresented the nature of the editing and continues to do so."

Excuse me if I didn't watch Face the Nation on Sunday morning when they trotted out the unedited version that was the 'preview clip', nor did I watch the prime time tv 60 Minutes episode on Monday evening with the edited clip.
The issue is the disparity between the preview and the edited version, not the programs and airing dates.
With the backdrop of the election CBS was obligated to provide equal time to Trump. Trump had no interest. That left CBS with the Harris interview.
People are entitled to dismiss the issue, but people are also entitled to question the journalistic integrity of Whitaker and CBS. They edited the lead in question and the answer from the interview with the candidate for POTUS who had also told  the American public that Biden was fully capable of running the country.

I suppose the 60 Minutes version could be viewed as being 'taken out of context' and providing a disservice to the American public.

Apparently the error was not just interviewing her for the 13 or whatever minutes they had slotted for the interview to run on 60 Minutes...

The error was showing the unedited version 1st. If they hadn't have done that there wouldn't have been wtf's after the 60 Minutes piece. Context, ya know.

Using different snippets is something they had done previously. Nonetheless, it was shown, so what's the problem? Plus,  who watches 60 Minutes or Meet The Press anymore?

"Even in a fractured news landscape, CBS News’ Bill Whitaker believes that there will “always be a need and a place for hard-hitting, well-presented news” – and “60 Minutes,” which has maintained its relevance in the five decades since it first debuted in 1968, proves his point.

60 Minutes” made television history this year, as it marked its 50th straight season as the No. 1 newsmagazine show in the U.S., the first time any program has topped ratings for that span. The hour-long Sunday program is seeing success by sticking to what they know — no-frills, deeply reported narrative segments that translate seamlessly to the screen."

Apparently so, and they provide deeply reported narrative segments.
