As Smokey the Bear once said, “you can’t stop forest fires and hurricanes, you can only hope to contain them.”
There is one major difference between fires and hurricanes.
If the forest burns, there is nothing left to burn. There's a hell of a lot of water in the ocean for the next hurricane.
There is a pretty much 50/50 prediction that a low in the Gulf is gonna hit Florida again next week.
(to be honest, the grasses in the forest actually do regrow annually and provide most of the fuel, and a lot of trees don't die in the fires. Fires in burn scars are a thing)
