There is one major difference between fires and hurricanes.

If the forest burns, there is nothing left to burn. There's a hell of a lot of water in the ocean for the next hurricane.
There is a pretty much 50/50 prediction that a low in the Gulf is gonna hit Florida again next week.

(to be honest, the grasses in the forest actually do regrow annually and provide most of the fuel, and a lot of trees don't die in the fires. Fires in burn scars are a thing)

-Build seawalls or revetments.
-Raise roadways.
-Participate in buyouts to relocate.   

Tough to leave your community and home, but I know which option I would choose if I lived in a high flood-risk area of Florida.

I don’t live in a hurricane zone. Or an earthquake zone. Or a flood zone. Or a place with inadequate rainfall for the number of people that live there. Or a fire zone.

The hurricane did give a big chunk of the eastern corn belt a much needed rain.

My uncle (married my dad’s sister) had rich parents who had a mansion that got wrecked during Katrina. I remember thinking, “it was just a matter of time”

I would never want to own a home right next to the most powerful destructive force on the planet. Unless I had so much money it didn’t matter.
