My first reaction was ugh, Miles Smith.  The thing is, this is a staff position-- not an assistant, he knows the ropes here, and he is obviously more than qualified. The position is director of recruiting and scouting. Did we have that before? Sounds like something new.

I would disagree that he is more than qualified to be on staff at a P5 program to be Director of Recruiting and Scouting.

Here is my take: Tyler Uberwood had apparently already been working as the third recruiter via waiver for free. Special rules this summer allow them to use staffers as coaches, so long as they don't exceed 4. They have Brad Uberwood and 2 assistants. That is three.  By creating a new administrative position for Tyler, they can have him as the 4th summer coach, until the new one can be named. Something like that.   

 Believe it or not, guys with decades of high major experience are not lining up to accept noncoaching staff positions.  From what I can gather, those jobs are generally entry level, or go to retreads.  Tyler Underwood, with 3 UI degrees, is probably more qualified than Jerrance Howard was when he got first staff job with Billy G at Texas A&M. I bet his pay is commensurate with his education and experience.  I may be wrong, but that is my take, and I am sticking with it for now.

They can put whoever the fck they want on as support staff. They can hire 10 guys.
That doesn't make him qualified. His 3 degrees you have a hard on about do not make him qualified to recruit or scout.
He was not usable player.
He has no more knowledge of the game than most guys here.

He is Hulka's kid. That's it.

You are right. The best player always  make the best coaches, and the best coaches were all good players. TU was not a B1G level player, so he can't possibly be a B1G level staffer.

Actually since we are hiring pretty much anybody right now with main requirement we think they will not leave- they should have hired little Opie Hulka's friend who sent Hulka the metrics that convinced this dumbass his defense totally sucked.
Hulka and Gentry had the 155th worst defense in the country at OSU. Took him 2 1/2 years of getting his ass reamed to change it here. He still is weak defensive coach and until that changes we will never make an NCAA run.
