That is the challenge right now. We were working ourselves back into a consistent top 4 BT and Top 25 nationally program status.

We could then recruit consistently and occasionally might make a deep run.

Can't lose the trajectory now. They can make tourney next year with or without Kofi. Have to get assts that can be successful in recruiting. Does not even have to be Top 50 kids, but a steady diet of Top 100-150 players that stick around, good roster makeup, and some key transfers that want to win and showcase.

If you get it going you get a few Top 50 kids to sign on.

That is why the Loyola loss really hurt. Was a chance to market nationally for a couple weeks and cement our rebuilding program.

So, need to shoot higher than Chet Frazier types.

UK is definitely a step up from UI (and just about everywhere else in the country, for that matter). Especially if you have head coaching aspirations, there’s probably no assistant job better than UK to get you there. Sucks to lose both of these guys, but losing OA is a much bigger loss.

Hard to blame them really.  A lot easier of a job when u can show up on kids doorstep at the last minute with a bag of $.

Message boards are really all over the Chin coming to Kentucky...not overwhelmed to say the least. I honestly think he will be the first lamb if one is needed, then where?

TBH things are a little too quiet on any word on Illinois acquiring replacements front.

Not sure what to make of that. Of the three top guys being mentioned (Mennenga, Bailey, Robinson), you would think somebody might jump by now.
Maybe they see it as lateral move and debating whether worth the change.
It's not like they are in bad situations or non P5 jobs.

Maybe the Mitchell thing is slowing things down, but why would Frazier even be in conversation.


I kind of agree that Powell may be a pipe dream. He is no doubt highly ethical and Gonzaga easily sells itself without having to get into the muck like the second tier programs like us, or even as much as the other bluebloods.

It's kind of a unique easy cleaner recruiting gig. Huge name recognition, auto high seed in NCAA, easy conference to put up numbers, Few seems like genuine nice guy, and they put some guys in NBA here and there.

I wonder if we are scrambling a bit here.

Hahaha. You mean like KY media and fanbase basically did a couple weeks ago?
It seems the official posting of these things is a formality.

We have to have been in talks with multiple guys for several days and doing parallel planning.

Well Underwood did say something to the effect, that we are in a really good place. Not sure where/when this was, but I believe it has been during all the Chin/OA speculation. Makes me want to think that maybe we have a homerun type coming in like Prohm/Bergeron or something like this. At least I hope this is the case or the ILLINI just went backwards yet again.

Bergeron is in no way whatsoever a “homerun” hire unless this is a 4 year old Tball league.

If you are looking for a big name here, you are going to almost certainly be disappointed. There’s a couple new names floating around and I have never heard of them in my life (which doesn’t mean they aren’t good). I will also be upping my Chester Frazier bet
