I have no issues rolling dice on Payne...but he comes in as a foul machine with almost no offensive skills and prone to making dumb mistakes. He’s mobile and can block and they think He’s a pick and roll guy per his analytics.

After seeing what Antigua did with Kofi, I’m sure he can improve Payne into an decent and effective offensive player. By effective, in no way am I saying into what Kofi is. Payne already has a pretty nice upside on the defensive end.

The Loyola game certainly didn’t do Kofi any favors. I imagine there’s some appeal to coming back to Illinois as the primary weapon. Especially if he has pieces around him. He’d certainly be a preseason AA and would have every opportunity to earn some huge personal accolades.

On the other hand his NBA aspirations probably depend shedding some mass and working on a lot of things he’s not going to do inside the framework of the Illini offense.

He is 22 years old this year.
I dunno. Hard to see him coming back.  He is not going to get significantly better at the three things he has to improve with another year at Illinois - defense in space, passing,  and a perimeter jumper.
Who knows, maybe he thinks he can get into first round by staying.

IU is hitting Adam Miller, which likely signals they are not confident Franklin returns. Sounds like he likes Illinois but there’s a hesitancy in playing his old team
