CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) — Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman is set to receive a four-year contract extension and six-figure raise, pending Board of Trustees approval at its regularly scheduled meeting next week.

If approved, Whitman’s contract will go through June 2028, with an initial raise of $175,000. The new terms would begin next week. Per the contract details obtained by WCIA 3, Whitman will receive $50,000 annual raises through 2028, in addition to being eligible for incentive compensation up to $300,000 per year.

We certainly know wins and losses and Tournament wins from the 2 revenue generating sports are not factors.

You could have a chat with the decision makers about that but they may also bring up facility upgrades and the non-revenue sports as well as the academics.

Again, have good basketball and football teams and you will be swimming in cash (including cash from the state) and not Asian butthole. No one gives a crap about non-revenue country club sports except the parents of the student-athletes.

Need to start thinking big, like MI, OSU, Alabama, even Wisconsin, instead of small. The public at large and the Illinois legislature does not care that Illinois and Wisconsin are tied for 9th in public universities. The Wisconsin "brand" shines far brighter with the public and politicians than Illinois'.
