This team has a lot of upside.
Obviously not on a path yet for a deep run, but still time.
Defense is a real problem.
Our 5 guards who play 90% of the minutes are average to below average defenders.
The idea that DW or TF are lock down defenders is a myth. Too small and not athletic enough. AD is barely average defender and Miller is a statue.
Curbelo is just OK.

Kofi is limited.  Georgi is limited.

Until we fix the defense we are just a pretty good Top 20 ish team.

Partially this is an issue with running 6'3" guys to guard 6'7" guys. We should have a size advantage since we have the 7'er, but we neutralize it when the next tallest guy on the floor is either 6'5" in shoes or can't guard the perimeter.

Agree. We are small and lack length.
We have a 6'3 guy playing the 4 except when Georgi is in with Kofi which creates a host of other issues, or when Hawkins sees the floor which is rare.
We are not very mentally tough either. We never start games ready to play.
We were a lot better last year on D.

Our next 6 games will not be as kind as our first 8.   We could easily drop 4 of our next 6.

We have 6 away games left that will be very tough and Iowa at home.
We could finish 5-6 or 6-5 and end up 16-10 heading into BTT.
Could win anywhere from 3 to 8 of the last 11 depending on the D.

Da'Monte has a 6-11 wingspan; which allows him to check 4s. I'd rather have a 6-8 combo forward with Monte off the bench though.

Having a tight end/fullback at the 4 would knock some double-teamers off Kofi's back. That would be useful.

Tom Izzo has had a lot of brutes play that role.

He works hard and makes a few hustle plays, but regularly gets backed down into the lane and abused like all of our wings.

I don't think we have one really way above average defender and played better team and help D last year.

I call BS. LOL. If he had that ability he should have been put on Liddell who ripped us a new asshole. Liddell is only 6'7".
