We had 3 fouls.
That ain't enough.
Somehow, we're outshooting them.

IU is outworking us. I've said this far too often this year.

That's what we call a trend, my friends.

Not pretty but we closed it out nicely. A W is a W at the end of the day.

Ayo is a straight up assassin.

Good to get a game like this under our belts. We'll see more.
Glad we got a win out of it.

Slow start, but a very efficient second half.  Always feels good to beat Indiana.

I think this was one of our best games all year in a lot of ways.
IU played us tough.
Our D was much better. We worked hard.
Hats off to Ayo for hitting clutch threes agaisnt a tough D. He didn't force anything really. Guy starts hitting from deep
he becomes pretty special player.

Had Christmas with my side of family at my brother’s today and we all watched it this afternoon.

Indiana had a good game plan and played solid help defense. At the ten minute mark I said, “I really want to feel like this is a cat killing a mouse thing and we are just toying with them, but I’m starting to wonder.” And my brother tensely said, “It’s getting kind of late for that!”

Thankfully our best players really asserted ourselves down the stretch and salted it away. Did a great job on TJD all day and forced lots of bad shots. Also gave up a few wide open threes. When their guards penetrated, our game plan on help D seemed to be to stick with the guard deeper into the lane to force kick outs and make them earn it from deep. As a result we were late on some close outs on those hedges.  Luckily they missed (and missed badly) on nearly all of them it seemed.

Overall a must win game that was closer than we’d have liked but ended up winning going away. Was especially fun when the adults were chanting I-L-L and the kids responding with I-N-I down the stretch.

Outside of TJD Indiana doesnt have a lot of offensive firepower.  Bad rebounding team but  they play great defense.

That was probably our best defensive effort of the year but still much to improve upon. Indiana had some open looks not drop.

Miller seems to be making baby steps on the defensive end, his offense is another story.

It will be interesting to see where Ayo ends up ranking wise in Illinois basketball lore. Does Ayo have a shot at being the greatest Illini ever?

If Ayo wins BT Player of the Year, makes AA team,  and we get to Final Four, then he is in conversation.
It's a high bar. I know it's hard for all of us to remember, but we used to be a pretty good program. Lol

That was kind of what I thought might set Ayo apart from other Illini greats of all time.  I mean when he got here we were dead last in the conference and in the midst of a 15 year free fall what used to be.  Illinois was the toilet bowl of college basketball.  Ayo has had far less around him than what others may have had. Although I can only go back to the Eddie Johnson days.  But just in that time span anyway from the late 70s to now.  I can't think of any player I would take over him.  Frank, Deon, and Gill are the first that come to mind.

Ayo has become a very good college player and we are a good team (Top 25) the last two years.
At this point, I would actually put several guys ahead of him in modern times (70s>), but he is still writing his story.
