Maryland now with three top 20 wins on the road. Best bad team in the country?

Maryland 63, Minnesota 49

The Big Ten is a gauntlet.  Anybody can beat anybody.

I would agree there is parity, but it is mostly due to a league of mostly equally mediocre teams.
There is no way Wisconsin is 10th best team in country, or OSU is 15th best team.

I agree that the B1G clearly lacks an elite level team.

But the B1G is kind of a self fulfilling prophecy wherein a bunch of mostly intact high quality teams returned and then end up beating each other up and making everyone look mediocre.

People were talking about this likely eventuality well before the season even started. Now it’s happening and of course now the B1G is overrated.

I will use Wisconsin and Iowa in my example here since they were good teams last year that returned pretty much everything. Returning everyone from a quality team is a probably the most foolproof predictor of NCAA success.  Iowa returns the NCAA player of the year. So it’s pretty safe to say that unless a whole bunch of other NCAA teams got dramatically better, those two should definitely be considered high level teams this year.

Tons of losses are happening in the top 25 every week. This year if Wisconsin and Iowa and an 11-4 team with no bad losses that just handled #12 IL and #10 WI on the road (OSU) aren’t worthy of being in the top 15 this year then I really don't know who is. (Other than Baylor and Zaga)

What he said.

Go Bucks! Oops, thought I was on Eleven Warriors. My bad. Apparently I'm posting on too many college sports forums.

I am going by what I see. These are crappy teams.

UM and Iowa are good, but each have issues that will likely prevent them from getting to FF, or maybe not even EE.
Iowa's defense is beyond bad and they will get beat in tourney by an athletic team that can guard the 3, and knows how to double and recover.
UM's frosh center is hitting a wall, Wagner is either great or disappears, and the PG is not as as good as I thought. They are best all around team in BIG, but are not elite at all.

OSU and Illinois are in next tier of S16 possible teams, but both have roster and matchup challenges. OSU is a team of midgets.
Illinois should be better than they are performing. I think we have biggest upside if Sgt. Hulka can start to figure out some things. We have defense issues, need to develop more options at the 4 and the bench, and lack toughness. Will be interesting to see how we do next four games. Last year we developed in second half. Who will step up?

Everybody else actually is mediocre IMO. It's simply bad basketball- not a deep league of really tough teams. The MVC used to do an RPI scam a few years ago. I feel like that is what is going on with the various rankings and metrics this year.

These teams do not pass the eye test.

FWIW- the Big 12 has 6 teams in top 22 in KenPom.
We have 5.

Izzo needs to retire. Game has passed him by for some time.
They are terrible and his system is 20 years old.

You were conspicuously absent during MGOducking college football season. Why is that? If memory serves, MSU's 1st year coach with no time to prepare his team took the Spartans on the road and laid waste to the Wolverines.

I've never talked football on this board. I'm a basketball guy. Even when Michigan is good in football I stop paying attention the first week of November when exhibition games and secret scrimmages start. Little Brother beat one of the shittiest Michigan football teams of all time. Good for them I guess? Didn't really do them much good did it?

Really? Sparty made the Final Four in 2010, 2015 & 2019, with an Elite Eight appearance in 2014. IMO, that's pretty good for the past 10 seasons (excluding 2020, when there was no NCAA Tournament).

MSU is a train wreck this year, but so is Duke. Kansas isn't dominating the Big XII this year like it has done in recent past.

I understand why you would stop watching UM football first week of November. Especially in 2020. The best move Harbaugh made all season was invoking Covid-19 and ducking Ohio State and Iowa.

I admit it. I can't stand Izzo. They are brutal to watch for over 2 decades.
