My comment was in response to this and being told to “chill.” But expecting Keaton Wagler like production out of good but not “great” players seems a little delusional. It’s not quite “Weber will coach up the 3 stars” delusional, but unless we land a bonafide AA talent, we’ll likely not replace him.
Fair enough, KW brought a lot more than just stats to the ILLINI for sure. That kid took on the role of being the leader, maker of B1G shots, clutch in the moment. All that said, though I actually think he had the talent AND the mindset to already be ready in his mind to do this, to his credit and our benefit he was right.
Sure coaching helped, however even the coaches stated multiple times all year THEY didn't even know what they had....KW DID. I think we have replaced the stats and the mentality already. Vaaks has B1G game nerves of steel already, and Coleman IS the man every bit as much as KW became IMO.
Also both Coleman and Zens are from multiple winning programs....another thing that BU looks for in recruits. Coleman is a 5* and it's justified. Vaaks will be all B1G ten next year, we could have 4-5 guys on those 3 teams imo.
I'd say we are better than last year, and we will continue to be better moving forward.
