We couldn't find anyone open to inbound the ball to. Like, how?

KJ for all his skills has his moments where he's very casual with the basketball. That casualness cost us at the worst possible time. Gotta be stronger with the ball, kid.

You can't let Gainey, their best ball handler, go coast to coast and win it on a layup with so little time left. Make him give it up for a deep three or something and if they hit that, tip your cap.

Simply made too many mistakes down the stretch against #1. Our effort was outstanding, our execution was not.

Gainey was the best actually in the game, even discounting the last play, his 23 points off the bench is ridiculous.

Well, apparently he said he should have called TO after the Free Shot.....why is this guy always regretting his ingame decisions? Hmmmm

Well he found a way to narrow down an entire game of ineptitude to one more bad coaching call/non call???

All that may be true, the last part is at least, the problem is they were NOT even close to dominant and we should have throttled them, this game was pathetic, almost as much as that inbounds play and the ability of the players to pull it off.

I love the team of players, but man it sure seems like some HERO ball creeping back in, BU simply didn't do SH' today and the players fought hard, just not consistent in any manner.

So dramatic. They weren’t dominant because we played hard nosed defense. So did they. Their whole calling card is playing tough D and and rebounding and limiting the three point shot. They’re old and experienced and physical. Our young team that returned almost nothing from a a year ago matched their intensity.

If only we had the guys on the team last year who transferred?

Illinois tradition of blaming the best player continues. KJ wasn’t as efficient as usual but UT had a lot to do with that. But look at Hum, Ivisic, Riley. We needed games from those guys and got dog shit for the most part. Riley 1/9 from the floor. Hum had 5/1/1 in 30 mins. 4 points from Ivisic in 28 mins. Did grab 12 boards I guess. KJ was the only reason we are in the damn ballgame.

I’d rather have Hansberry than Booth or Hum. The rest? Meh. Coleman wasn’t worth what it would have cost to keep him.

It would be nice if the strategy of chucking 3s had some adjustment against teams who rebound well and are quicker than our guys on the perimeter.

KJ also has a small hero-ball problem but he's clearly our best gamer so not sure I'd want to discourage it.

Our interior efforts weren’t much better.

It's like the McCamey era with a much better supporting cast. Of the six guys we have who shoot the basketball, five had bad shooting games.

But also, we should have more than 6 guys who shoot the basketball.

No, they weren't, which is a credit to TN's defense to a point. Milicic is a good ballplayer. Probably a game where a mid-range offense would benefit but we don't really do that w/ the current set-up.

I hated this game so much reminded me of watching us play purdue, ugly ugly hackeyball

but at least I won 100 bucks playing video poker during the game so that's something, I guess...

I watched with a mix of big ten and sec fans, most were rooting for us. There was only one other Illini fan in the room, a 17 year old whose uncle played football for Illinois in the 90s. I seriously wanted to break some shit. That last minute and half were horrendous.

To early for damage control, he will be playing way more come March imo. He has been committed for 3 years now. I don't think Rez thought it would be easy nor expect it to be. I would fully expect him, and Riley for that matter to be back.
